Title: Viper S Rebuild and Upgrade..
Post by: apennicardwood1 on August 13, 2012, 06:46:13 pm
Hi All
This is my Viper S i got it from ebay for £20 as it was missing a bit, the batt cover.
I would like to put on here the rebuild and upgrading that i am going to do to this boat, hope you will all like what i am doing.

Ok now in the first step this is the boat (sorry about the car, i was trying to use it as scale but everyone was asking how big is the car..)

Next i made a stand for the boat to sit on out of some packing that i use at work.

Looks like an interesting project. Certainly an unusual-looking vessel.

Judging by the pictures I have seen online of the original batt cover, the fitment was really poor, so your home-moulded one will no doubt be an improvement.

What upgrades are you planning?

I am planning on put a ALIGN 500MX Brushless Motor (1600KV) and 100A Brushless Motor Speed Controller RC ESC Water Cool with a 3600mAh 50C Max 55C 6S 6-Cell 22.2 Volt RC LiPo Li-Poly. I will also change the radio gear of my Turnigy X9.

What do you think?

Should go like stink! Do keep us posted as the project progresses. Are you going to try to reproduce the vertical fins on the original cover, or go for a different look?

I hope i will go like stink too, and no i'm not going to reproduce the fins i know its how the boat came out of the box but i think it makes it look a bit tacky. I was going to go with a stream line look.
I will get some pics as i go.

Do you know what they said about the Viper S on the Gadget Show?

It got a mention and was in a selection of boats they had to choose from, but was quickly discounted as it was "unsuitable" for the challenge at hand... they ended up using a King of shaves cat and a Traxxas deep V

Hi all
Just a small update, i tryed the boat in the water at the weekend and found that the rudder dose not very much at all unless it is moving fast. I was thinking of moving the rudder in line with the prop.

If i move it will it help and is there a min distance the rudder should be from the prop?

Oh and i also found that the boat try's to sink quite fast as there is a split in one of the wings  :embarrassed:
this is the next thing to fix.
