Title: Creases in sails
Post by: Roddo on April 28, 2007, 08:43:12 pm
Recently had a mishap with my sails during storage and the jib sail is quite badly creased.
Anyone had any luck removing creases from mylar sails.

Thanks

Rod

Try soaking in warm to hot water and then lay flat under a suitable weight.

HTH Just a thought.

Bend the crease very accurately the opposite way, or curve around a round object ie biro or pencil, I have used both ways before. Also rubbing gently with finger nails on a flat surface works.I make sails part time for model yachts and have had some success removing creases, not all good mind, depends how bad the crease is in th first place, but you will get an improvement.

;DTried both methods, fingernail tip worked best. Not perfect but sail is at least usable
Many thanks

Hi, creases in nylon / man made fibre type material can be removed almost completely by this method.
Heat electric iron up to a minimum heating so that it will cause a wet, but wrung out, handkerchief to steam and dry out.
Lay out the sail with crease, put wet but wrung out handkerchief over and iron until handkerchief is dry.
If the crease is still there then repeat
I removed folded in creases like this completely from sails in a Kyosho yacht kit.
good luck,
regards Roy
