Hi all, yes I know another ship but I am enjoying myself and this will keep me going for a long time.
I will put it away with the Blue Devil and when Nimitz and Sovremenny are finished to my liking I will make a start on one or the other, I would say the Missouri as I notice a lot of upgrade parts are available before I start the build.

I am also checking re this kit about the Lion roar complete Upgrade kit for this model and is US 239.00 but what an upgrade kit, so many parts to complete your model to near perfection I think. %%

Well my Kit has finally arrived and it's a beauty.
A lot of work will be needed to make my Missouri so I have decided in knowledge obtained, now I have been with the Forum for a while, that I will not start the build on this kit until I have everything in my hot little hands like Upgrades, paint, glue and anything else I think I need to make this one great model. I am sick and tired of having to wait wait wait for paint, glue you know what it's like so no more.
She can wait until all other's including Nimitz are completed and then I will concentrate wholely and soley on Missouri.
I of course want to Radio control her for enjoyment at the Billabong so I will be looking into that side of things also.
She doesnt come with brass anything so it will be all from scratch re props shafts etc which is a bummer as I thought it might have come with at least brass shafts and props. Poor effort for the money Tamiya...

Nice kit, but for me the cheapness of the earlier versions (without the "improvements" and the PE set, etc.) beckons me. Most of the earlier versions of the Tamiya 1/350 battleships (Yamato, Bismarck, KGV) contained parts for a motorization option including a motor and gearbox. For instance TAM78002 (the motorized version of the Yamato) versus the later TAM78014 (display only kit) shows the progression in the serial number range. The Bismarck/Tirpitz and King George V/Prince of Wales kits also have similar serial numbers.
Those can still be found on that popular auction site. Matter of fact, I picked up an Otaki 1/350 New Jersey that for all intents and purposes seems to be an almost identical mold to either the Tamiya kit or one of the Revell Iowa class battlewagons. I'm not sure which. Mine also has the motorization option, a nice looking one motor-to-4 output shaft gearbox and some really nice looking brass (yes brass) propellers pre-mounted on brass prop shafts. I'll get right on to that and actually build a kit and cease this ridiculous model kit accumulation illness I have... :-))
Looking forward to an in-depth build thread (you first) ;). Keep us posted.

Yes I understand look forward to seeing your build if you put it up.
I ordered the wooden decking today in the gray blue scheme so that will be put away in the Missouri board I have made as I collect each item I want.

I got a good deal from a supplier I used to buy a lot of stuff from. I do however have to save for the Etch upgrades.
Lion Roar have what they call their Supreme at 234.00. There is one upgrade set with the same claim on our favourite E site for 99.00 so that might be the go.
On looking at her parts listings I did'nt know she had so many guns of different sizes, it's amazing..

Hello Shipmates. I have decided to start the painting of this kit before assembly.
It is to be done in the Measure 22 camouflage (1945).
Tamiya list the paints in the instruction manual which is good and suggest using XF50 for main decks and all topsides including the top of the main 16inch turrets so, as you look down on the Ship she is all Blue. Unfortunately they do not list the GREY colour to be used on her side areas. There are Grey's listed in the paint scheme but these are for items that are attached to the turrets and superstructure. Can anyone advise the correct Grey for the Bulk of Missouri and Tamiya if possible. Would appreciate someones knowledge.

Hello Armo, re motorising your Missouri, Deans Marine here in the UK have just released a miniature motorising kit, including brass props, shafts, rudders etc that may be suitable for your build. They were designed for the Trumpeter 1/22th Bismark, but will be adaptable for other kits, it comes in 1,2 and 3 screw versions. Looking forward to seeing pic's of your build.

My "Plastic" fleet now consists of 4 craft......The Tamiya Enterprise, Revell Snowbery Corvette, Lindberg Fletcher Destroyer and Trumpter Bismark.
All running on 2.4 Ghz on Planet receivers. I use the same TX on all my boats, just makes life so much easier.......I really fancy doing a Liberty ship now so I guess I'll have to go to the Dean's Marine offerings as I don't think there is a suitable plastic kit out there.

Been busy yourself Alan, congrats. I am going to do a submarine next using Mike Caswells gear. Very expensive but I am assured of a great working model. Just got to choose one then save save save. How did you like Bismarck? I will read all write ups tomorrow.

The Bismark was a fabulous kit to build, everything fits to together so well. Good performer on the water as well now that ballast has been sorted. I went for single motor option using Dean's Marine kit. The two outer props/shafts are dummies.

It sounds terrific! I have the older Tamiya Tirpitz with single engine and gearbox myself. Been looking around for a proper twin engine setup, so the Deans Marine setup sounds nice. Do you have any pics of your setup?

I have Missouri with twin motors etc and a single rudder set up. Have pictures working on posting at a later stage.

Okay I seem to be getting video you tube working on the camera.
Missouri is twin motor driven and single rudder. Quite frankly I did not have anything I could use for a twin rudder set up and also space was at a premium to fit twin rudders as the top deck fits very low in the rear and I had to file off a fair portion of the rudder and mount to make it fit. No matter, sails well and very little ballast required as the 7.2V nicad seems to do the job. Planet RC system fitted also.
A good project but for me with those small guns I had to use my magnifier. I am happy overall with the result.

I would advise you on uploading pics only by saying I believe they are best utilized using an off-forum photo hosting site like Photobucket or something similar. Free service of course and then you provide the links to your pics from the hosting site and they appear here--I think that's the best way.
I have started my New Jersey but have not made much progress. My (used) kit, incidentally, had already been started by a ham-fisted buffoon who used excessive cement but no skill. I disassembled all the glued together pieces (on the "island" super structure) which consisted of vertical wall pieces only and am now in the process of gluing it back together. I intend to purchase the Gold Medal Models PE set for the Tamiya Missouri. Anyway, for inspiration, I recently read the 30+ pages of the build log below. Shows what can be done with the kit if one is a detail fanatic:

Great to see you modelling Harquesbus. I shall look at the link tonight and no doubt enjoy. I have found out the need however to dispense with the Ultimate detailing as I have discovered a lot disappears moving the model from home to water, when sailing etc..WHERE DID I PUT THAT GLUE?:-)
Here are some calm photos to look over. She sails well but i think the camera is to small to take decent videos on the sea, will try after the Billabong fills up again. No ocean due to hot hot weather. Must have been great to see her in the flesh too. AWESOME.

Just a quick note. The water she sails in is a mixture of fresh and bore water. That was a few coats of Hull Red and 2 sailing periods. Think what it does to your innards. No wonder for a good RUM. Hmmm.

The props look like speed props and the motors too. I bet she is very fast on the water? ;) :embarrassed:
I really like this version of Tamiya New Jersey (http://heliblog.moller-ilsoe.dk/#category10) (multiple pages there in the build log) but it is a bit overbuilt and uses brushless motors but I like all 4 props turning, definitely.

I decided to use what I had left out of my bits and pieces. Yes 100% spot on there. I run her on about quarter throttle and that seems to be around her speed. The motors are normal 380 size but yes if I opened her up you would have a fast electric Missouri on your hands I would have to fit turn fins to stop her stern skating across the water haha.
Not very scale like. Brass props will follow later on, I just wanted to finish her and get her into the water. I was pleasantly surprised also with the fact very little ballast is required. As far as 4 prop setup well my friend its all yours and a lot of planning and positioning to make it work. Good luck with that shipmate.:-)

Ah yes I forgot, I had a look at the link and yes it's a beautiful Model Harquebus, but in my defence I chose to not go ahead with A. The wooden decking. B. The upgrade etch kit.
Reasons I explained under the amount of movement, travelling and sailing my Missouri is doing. I am certain a lot of parts would have been lost or come adrift. As it is luckily Tamiya give you spare small bofors etc of which I had to replace. You don't know they are missing until you get home, no matter how careful you are.
WHERE THE HELL DID THAT GUN GO TO? Plastic glue I have found out is not that strong.
So if you do decide to sail your model shipmate, it could happen to you. I guess all i am saying is be prepared.:-)

Plastic glue can be very strong if it is allowed to 'weld' one plastic piece to another. In fact, for most assembly I recommend liquid cement applied with a brush. Place two pieces together and brush the seam with the cement and the cement will run the length of the joint by capillary action. I'll often allow the pieces to get quite soft after application of cement and then mash the pieces together until the melted plastic and glue oozes from the seam. But I digress.
I am finding out my Revell/Otaki New Jersey has missing pieces. The kit is long out of production (or is it?) (http://www.revell.com/germany/ships/80-5129.html) so what is the best alternative? Ordering spare parts from Tamiya's Missouri! So I'll end up with a Franken-Iowa class. :((
