Today Asil Nadir was jailed for ten years for stealing £29M. He'll be out in five. A mugger in Nottingham got four years for stealing a handbag. I wonder how much was in it? A pro-rata £23.2M perhaps?? In your dreams!
There is always one law for the rich and another for the rest of us.
It will never change because the law is made by the rich for the rich, and they will always look after their own interests before anyone else's. Bankers, the legal profession and the judiciary are a large part of this elite establishment, so don't go looking for "justice" in any of these 'show-trials'; you'll only be disappointed.

Dave,

There's one set of laws that applies to everyone, just because you disagree with the way you see them applied, doesn't make them wrong.

I'd suggest reading up on the guidelines for tariffs for theft and how they are to be applied, and you might realise that it's the act itself, (and the circumstances), that attracts the sentence not the value.

Maybe when I've finished reading Animal Farm (again).

Ah, but it is the same elite minority that wrote the guidelines, they watch each others backs and sod the rest of us......

Indeed, there you have it, shareholders, ordinary folks trying to invest in their future....

But some of those shareholders were probably banks.  You can bet that they were the first in the queue for any return scrapings from the mess that he left.  What annoys me is that we are now, for at least the next 5 years, stuck with housing and feeding him as well as forking out for his medical needs.  Deporting him and his infirmities would be so much better.
Just a couple of thoughts, judges are referred to as "Mr Justice " when in fact they are nothing to do with justice, but, when it suits them, entirely bound by law.  Similarly, MPs get the title "Honourable", or if a long way up the pile, "Right Honourable", when precious few of them know the meaning of the word.

But surely banks are investing their shareholders/customers money, it seems to me to be a viscous circle, creaming loads off the top and giving us very little in return these people are playing about with our money. Ans as for our Members of the Lower House, their titles should be changed to Dishonorable and Right Dishonorable.....

:o thirty years ago in OZ if you had a "sickie"...you needed a statutory declaration witnessed by any of the following

a Doctor, a Dentist, a Seargent of Police or a Bank Manager or a JP

Today the list in OZ has changed.......guess who is no longer on the list of reputable people?

"the Bank Manager" ......speaks for itself doesn't it...... O0

I can't remember how long ago it was that the post of Bank Manager lost its traditional meaning. This was the bloke who sat in his ivory tower at the local bank branch, to whom you had to grovel personally for a loan, and the guy who signed the rude letter telling you that you'd gone fifty pence O/D for ten minutes and therefore owed him twenty quid. These days it's all done by phone or on-line, and you never actually hear of a "manager" in the same context. I think we once had a "personal account adviser" but I wouldn't know which individual to approach in our bank (wherever the local branch is.....) for advice or a loan. We just seem get a stream of  spiky-haired and obnoxious 18-year olds trying to sell us one of their "financial products".
It's all probably been done by the Perpetual Change Brigade to "improve customer service". Come back, Mr Wealthdale (yes - really!!) - your customers miss you!
