King Lear Model Boat Club was formed in March 2008. We are a friendly club whose members interests cover all aspects of model boating ie. sail, steam, scale, fast electric and static. We sail on Sundays weather permitting, although we have access to our lake 24/7. We have the use of King Lears Lake which is part of Watermead Country Park, near Wanlip, Leicestershire.
The lake is a mile in circumference and has a maximum depth of around 12 feet. Park authorities have put in a concrete landing stage, to improve access for less able bodied members. We have a strong relationsip with the local authority and they have future plans to improve the country park and its facilities, which will only benefit the club.
We enjoy all aspects of model boating and have a club/social evening on the first Tuesday of each month.
We meet at Thurmaston Working Mens Progressive Club, 805 Melton road, Thurmaston, Leicester, LE4 8EE meetings start at 7:30pm.
Club members visit many events and have forged good relations with model boat clubs throughout the country. We attend model boat club open days and shows/events including:
the International Model Boat Show, the Fireboat Funday, the Whitwick Model Boat Show, the Fleetwood Vintage Model Weekend and many more throughout the country.
At King Lears Lake we have hosted the Model Fireboat Funday also rounds of BMPRS Offshore Powerboat Racing and Fast Electric Speeds Record day.
Since forming in 2008 we have had our own club stand at the International Model Boat Show which takes place annually in November at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.

Streetmap puts LE7 1PD in the middle of an industrial estate. I can see Watermead Park on the other side of the A46 and King Lear's Lake but where exactly do you sail; where is the entrance to the park (off Wanlip Road, Syston or Canal St, Thurmaston)and where do you park? Gizza clue, m'duck!

The Entrance to the park is from wanlip lane, there a £2.50 charge to get in. follow the road all the way to the end where you will find the carpark, which is situated next to kinglear lake. from the carpark it a very short walk through the gate to the lake side, and the landing platform :-))
hope that helps , and happy sailing
-
Thanks a lot! I might just come along if the weather is OK.
