Right chaps, needing some advice here...
I have my TV and my Freesat box, all hooked up and wonderfully. Today I managed to 'acquire' an LG 5.1 surround sound system, consisting of a dvd/cd player with built in amp and radio receiver, 4 tall speakers, a huge bass speaker and a circular centre speaker.
Now...I have plenty of scart cables, but what I need to know is...what goes where? Do I take the aerial lead to the Freesat box, and then connect to the dvd/cd player via scart lead or vice versa?
Rich
-
It's going to be almost impossible to analyse by written word. I had the instruction manuals for all the gear and it still took many hours to couple up.
As a general rule of thumb, you will be looking for Audio out on your TV. This will go to an amplifier and onwards through the speaker system. The DVD will need a Scart lead into the TV.
Take it away Scottie (as Capt Kirk would say !) Get the camera out. %)
-
I have all the instruction manuals, it says to connect the dvd/cd player direct to the TV via a scart...but I thought that the Freesat box would be first in line?
-
Straight into the tv scart.
It will play DVD's, CD's and the surround sound can be used on "normal" tv.
Bob
-
Ok, I'll give that a try, Bob...thank you kindly.
Stand by for bad language.... %)
-
As Bob says, I've got an LG surround sound set, and there's no audio input on there so its just a scart from dvd to tv, dvds will play with surround sound, with the picture on either AV1 or AV2 and normal tv same as usual and sound from the tv.
-
Cheers Derrick, tomorrow morning will see some determined efforts at hooking it all up. MotoGP...on my big TV...in surround sound = heaven!
-
Be careful. "You've got your negative feedback coupled in with your push-pull input-output; take that across your red-head pickup to your tweeter, and if you're modding more than eight you're going to get wow on your top - try to bring that down through your rumble filter to your woofer. And what'll you get? Flutter on your bottom!" (from 'A Song of Reproduction' by Flanders and Swann)

Umm...yes. I think...
-
Don't forget to put a speaker behind you. You'll be jumping out of the way. {-) {-) {-)
-
I have two in front, two behind, the centre one under the TV unit, and the woofer on the floor sort of off centre in front of me. Looking forward to watching the depth charge scene from 'Das Boot' with the volume wound up... ;D
-
But first, the small job of connecting it up. %)
-
Yea...up bright n' early tomorrow, get stuck into it. I have until 1230hrs to complete the job.
-
I would be in the same boat as you U-33........ {-)
Don't you have any relatives with a 7 year old child?.......children don't need instruction manuals.....just ZIP & the job is completed O0 ....Derek
-
I have grandkids that could do it blindfold whilst eating their breakfast, but one can't lose face in front of them...can one?
Mind you, if all else fails...they are only a phone call away.
-
.....U-33 says ...."but one can't lose face in front of them...can one?" :embarrassed:
Give them a call & say....could you please help......[Pa...Park...Pop...Grandad...Gramps]....or whoever they call you {-) %%
They would be so happy to help O0....give them a call.... <*< ....Derek

Grrr..... >>:-( cuss cuss...mutter mutter... <*<

First thing is to make sure sound comes out of it before linking to the TV, it's a sound unit so you can play a CD on it first. How many scart sockets on the back of the TV?
Regards Ian
-
I can get a cd to play ok, but I'm only getting sound from the front/centre speakers and the woofer....nothing from the rear two at all. There's two scart sockets on the back of the tv...
-
Check destructions for a "Stero - Surround" option on sound unit. Make sure all 5 small units are working individually. For all speakers there is a left-right, front - back test in the settings.
Regards Ian

And it's not showing on the tv either...
-
Errrr, go back to post #17

I stake my interest in saying I don't have surround sound. My children do, however and I'm led to believe that not every program transmits it all some times.
Circlip's thinking is correct in that once you find a speaker that works, then test all the others on that circuit.
This could be our most popular thread. :} :} :}
-
Sorted it...I went through all the switches on the back of the unit, and after three or four flicks and pushes it burst into life!
It is L O U D....at the moment it's on volume seven, and treating the whole village to Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the centre of the earth". Roll on the MotoGP...
Ye Gods, is it ever loud....wound it up to eleven and me tea in me tea cup started vibrating!
-
Kenny,
The surround sound is a stand alone decoder so no input needed from programme.
Bob
-
Just found my drag racing dvd's...She Devil Racing's methanol burning funny car is just about to go down through the High Street.. :o
-
Are you turning into the neighbour from hell now!!!
Bob
-
Glad you don't have a garden cos as sure as God made little apples green, when the sun comes out, there's always some b***ard that wants to burn food or strim the grass. %)
Regards Ian.

Hi Bob,
Well I didn't know that. :-))
It's a shame that 'er indoors' won't have speakers other than in front. %)
ken
-
:o. I'm pretty sure that this thing can outdo any lawnmower, strimmer or electric drill that the neighbours can come up with...and the amount of air that the bass speaker moves about is more than capable of blowing bonfire smoke away!
Here we go then...MotoGP is about to start. That Desmo Ducati of Rossi is going to sound good....
Oh...and it's also one year on since we lost Marco Simoncelli....RIP Marco.

You can locate the sub-woofer anywhere in the room Rich, hide it behind the couch or whatever, it relies on pure THRUTCH
-
That was one awesome sounding MotoGP race...that Ducati seemed to come through the front door, round the front room, behind the sofa, and back out the front door. Absolutely amazing...good thing the neighbours are all out!
Now...I wonder if I can hook the thing up to my laptop...hmm.
-
Scraped Dany and Carls gravel out of the carpet yet??
Regards Ian.
-
That was such a shame, I was looking forward to watching Dani and Jorge fight it out again. Still, a second for Vale....pretty damn good.

How many more times, go back to #17

All up and running?
Bob
-
Working fine on the tv now, Bob....it practically boils my tea when it's wound up.
Good thing my neighbours like Klaatu...
-
This thing is awesome...the sounds it produces are amazing. I've just played Ian King's top fuel drag bike doing a burn out and then a full 1/4mile run, had to hold onto my two pictures on the windowsill...never heard anything like it!

Hope the surround sound is still going well Rich I have got the same system running through an lg T.V. if you have a router you should be able to connect it to the tinternet for updates but only if it has a network socket you can then use your PC or Laptop as a server to play direct to the unit
Regards Mark.
-
Still working well Mark, thanks...I've done the drag race sound effects, done the traditional rock music, next up is find a good CD of aircraft sounds. I have an idea that a Merlin engine at full volume would sound absolutely awesome flying round my lounge!
