Hi All,
I quite like the Thunder Tiger Victoria yacht... Opinions please?

My first yacht build, very nice boat to stsrt with. Sails well and easy to put togrther.
See this site for lots of tips tuning etc..

My first boat as well.
I will echo what Tester has said.
Also virtually unsinkable. Mine was run over by a flat bottomed pleasure boat 1:1, she was under for about 5 seconds (seemed longer). She took on about a litre of water but I was still able to sail her back.
I have sailed her in very strong winds that knocked her flat, but she just pops right back up.
Have a look at the sites that show ideas for tuning. One of them has a different method/setup of fittting the radio gear, which I wish I had done. Retro fitting is much harder.
Also don't bother fitting the two wheels and the helm equipment. It just gets i the way.

The instructions say use a normal servo, is a good standard Futaba 3001 OK or do I need something better?
I will only ever be doing fun sailing with the Victoria....
-
I use one of them on my 1mtr and 10r with no probs stavros
-
Sorry Stavros, Futaba 3001 OK for use as the sail servo?

I use a Futaba S9405 sail arm servo which does the job, but there are others you can choose.
I doubt s3001 will be beefy enough.

We have several Victoria's in my club and race them as a one model class. Experience shows that the plastic eyebolts that the shrouds fix to tend to pull out. I would recommend replacement with brass eyebolts. On the whole a good little yacht.

Brass or stainless steel eyebolts would help but are not an absolute must.
Several of my plastic eyebolts have come off, once. But on re-glueing , with the adhesive provided, they take much better the second time.
I now expect every model I build to break somewhere. Knots fail, bits get knocked off, bits get glued back on if needed and knots get tied different.
But I have learned a lot about mechanical problems and how to fix them.
If you want to use eyebolts, then I can recomend www.sailsetc.com as a supplier.
I am not connected, just a happy customer.

I'm building a victoria now too, for the MAYHEM WEEKEND....
Now don't no one be getting all high and mighty and all 'hoytty toytty' - but i would like a couple of figures / crew for he deck.
Tamiya don't don't make crew set #56203 any more, where can I get some others please?
Martin ( yes, I know nothing about yachts either! :-\ )

Martin
That set is 1/20 scale for the Tamiya RTW yacht, this is a lot bigger than the Victoria.
The set was based on the F1 pit crew set which can be easily converted.
