Title: PT to Pleasure!
Post by: Scribe on September 25, 2012, 08:25:26 am
As next years Convention theme is Pleasure boats, and, as we do not have one, my son and I are going to take an old, cheap Japanese PT boat an do a conversion.
The starting point is an old 1/40th scale Robbe kit which I bought 2 years ago off E Bay for £80. From the pictures below it looks good, goes like S*** off a shovel, but the superstructure now lies at the bottom of the lake, so it does not look as good now.
The first pass will be to replace the aft gun position with a swimming pool!

I will keep you posted! ok2

Now, as the Robbe was 1/40th scale, Preiser make some nice O Gauge railway figures which are approx 1/43rd scale....

I like your idea, I am doing a similar conversion on a 1/16 scale 85' USAAF rescue boat. Building it from the keel up as a former military craft converted to private civilian use, no weapons or turrets. Colors will be similar to a Chris Craft Constellation, gold below water line, white hull sides and cabin tops, natural deck, cabin sides and transom. Power will be water cooled speed controllers and brushless motors, with li po's providing the power. Also looking into a converted Specktrum transmitter with twin throttle sticks for separate motor controls available from a US supplier. Two of the guys at our local lake have them and are very pleased with there abilities.
