Title: rigging for Jif.65
Post by: Dicky-P on September 28, 2012, 03:35:41 pm
I have just about completed the hull for a jif.65. I have searcehed the internet for a rigging layout but despite the fact that there are several photos, none of them seem to be particularly clear as to where the lines start and finish.

Can anybody clarify please ?

Thanks

Are you using the Marine Modelling pair of plans?....

Yes, but unfortunately these differ from some photos on the various sites

Some show 2 sheets coming thro the deck fom the servo, others show the mainsail sheet conectected to the sheet that comes from the port side to the starbord via a linkage.

Jusr wondered what others use

Artist Mike thanks for your reply

Well I've raced IOMs and sailed a variety of sailing craft and to be honest, a lot of the time it's up to you how you rig up things like that, everyone has their own preferred method. Have you rigged other sailing boats at all?

It's a bit difficult to explain really but I've annotated the  MM plan a bit which may help and just ask questions till you understand how it works.    :-)

@dickyp:
ArtistMike has provided an excellent response on the winch lines and sheets.

However, you asked about rigging.... Did ArtistMike provided what you were after, or are you after detail of the standing rigging - like where the stays and shrouds fit and how the sails attach to the mast and booms??

just one question

Is the ring fixed in position or does it slide on the sheet that runs from port to starboard

The ring is in a fixed position on that black rigging line, equidistant from both side and acts to centre where the mainsheet comes out and then the boom can then swing from side to side at a distance determined by how much mainsheet you let out but will always be the same distance either side .......  I hope that makes sense..  :-) As I say, just keep asking and you'll soon get it sorted.
