Title: Hunting for 1/72 Ship Crest
Post by: george on October 04, 2012, 12:01:08 am
  Hello

I figure it`s best to start a separate post rather than jumping in on Hmas Hammersley Crest. I am looking for a 1/72 Crest of HMAS Wollongong in both classes of ships; Fremantle and Armidale. I have had replies in the other post which said that the crest shown, when shrunk down had the writting very blurry. So what I did was contact the Australian Navy to ask if it was possible to receive a High Resolution picture of the Wollongong Crest so that I can have it reduced to 1/72 scale and still be readable.

If anyone has any tips OR can help me with this I would VERY MUCH appreciate it and pay for the materials. I need at least Two Crests and Name plates.

Thanks for your Time and Help.

  Hello Again

Well it`s been just a little over a week since I emailed my question of getting a high resolution picture of the ship crest of Wollongong from the Australian Navy. No reply yet, maybe it`s a government secret?

Anyone have any suggestions for me to try to get a high resolution picture?

 Thanks Again for the help.

Before I started building my Armidale Class boat, I emailed the RAN for information. It took a few weeks, but they eventually replied, although they were unable to assist me with drawings.

Hi George

If you have an picture of the crest you can scale it using any photo manipulation programme such as photo shop. you can buy specail paper to make your own decals using both ink jet and laser printers.

thats how I made the crests on the doors of my PCF

  Hi Glenn

Thanks for the information BUT just one thing. I have NO idea of how to do what you said. Would you be willing to do this for me? I would pay you for it. In the other posting under Hamersley Crest there is a link to the Wollongong Crest, could you scale it down to 1/72 for me? I would like it to be readable though and clear image. If you can do this, I would hope to get enough for Two ships for Crests and Name plates and some extras for mounting mistakes.

Please let me know if you can help me and what it would cost.

 Thanks Glenn.

Their is RAN  heritage section link below

http://117.55.225.121/Ranhc

There is a contact form on their site, being "volunteer" you may get a quicker response from them regarding crests.

They recently presented a full size crest of HMAS Ipswich, to the city of Ipswich, next to Brisbane.

Worth a try.
