Title: INTERCEPTOR PILOT BOATS
Post by: Neil on October 05, 2012, 01:16:51 pm
Anyone building the newish models by design pilot boat have a look at this report....

shows what the real boats are capable of and what fine lifeboats they would have made.....

Incredible photos, Neil, and a testement to both the design and capabilities of these types of craft especially when they are under the controll of a suitably skilled & experienced helmsman. Despite all the computer predictions, you've got to admire the crews who conduct the very first live surt-tests of all the 'extreme conditions' types of vessel.

Whilst not wanting to alter the course of the topic from the Interceptor, if anyone is interested in images of 'boat vs. large wave' scenarios, these Interceptor pictures are similar to some of a USCG 47ft MLB off Morro Bay, Calif - a model I'm keen to build and still have a 'Help please' advert for in the Wanted section.

That last picture  has to be past the point of no return!

Nope!, the USCG 47ft MLB survived the incident with the wave as the image below shows. The full story of the event is captured in a sequence of images and is definately worth checking via a web search and/or following this link, http://www.flickr.com/photos/metalcraftmarine/sets/72157594474119527/with/2177135522/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/metalcraftmarine/sets/72157594474119527/with/2177135522/)

However, whilst an 'Extreme Conditions' or an '47ft MLB' thread may be of interest in it's own right, I don't want to hijack or divert this thread too far away from the focus of the topic, the Interceptor Pilot Boats of the title, as manufactured in fullsize by SAFEHAVEN MARINE (link in Reply #1 by sailorboy61), and as a 1:12 scale kit by MODELS BY DESIGN See - http://www.modelsbydesign.co.uk
