Title: new to the forum
Post by: oscillator on October 09, 2012, 01:38:16 pm
I have recently joined Model Boat Mayhem and would like to introduce myself.
I am in my 70,s ands live in Horsham West Sussex, an engineer by training I have for the past 30 years been an active R/C scale aeromodeller. recently I have gained an interest in steam models and have visited the local club Southwater dabblers what a great band of guys they are. I have just started Miranda and building the steam plant that powers it so the challenge has started and I can make alot of use of my lathe and milling machine. At the moment I am trying to locate the articles written by Basil Harley on the Miranda and have been successful in getting the July 1983 edition of Model Boats ,still trying to get copies of August , Sept, and October.
If anyone  can help it would be very much appreciated
By the way the first name is Peter.

Hi Peter and welcome to Mayhem.

It might be a good idea to put your location in your Profile so that local members may get in touch.

Cheers

Ken

Martin,
The Miranda has just been started it is at the cutting out stage but hopefully I will be in the shed tomorrow and do the frames of the engine plus the crankshaft. As I progress I will give you an update and pics as appropriate.
From the plans it looks as though it will be a challenge but interesting!!!!
Some comments from Dabbler members was to watch the freeboard as some considered it low for anything but calm water. Being a novice on boats I had to look up the terminology. It is quite stimulating to do a different model. I am sure I will need all the help I can get from forum members
