Post by: wallace on November 10, 2012, 10:51:22 am
Has anyone done any business with this firm from China    VIPO DECK CO.LTD
The reason i'm asking is I'm after the model kit of a Ton Class Mine Hunter scale 1.48  and last year was given this name to contact yes i have heared from them alot last year and they do do model boats which look really good,so i got onto the person I was dealing with and last week  she gave me details of the model and the cost $600 US dollars so it was not bad I replied asking for all the details about the model and what is in the box (kit) and also to send photos of it all  plus is there plans etc.Well I'm still waiting for a reply its been a week now it does not take that long to email details etc.

And don't forget you pay VAT on the duty.

So it's add cost and shipping together, work out duty (possibly 4% or so for models I think, but you'll need to check as that was from the USA a few years ago) and add to total, add 20% of that for VAT, then add handling fee (which used to be £12 for Parcelfarce or Royal Mail).

Oh, yes, if it's your turn for a bad day you'll find the seller marks the customs declaration with the wrong category (more duty) or wrong value (eg. $6000).

(I know all this because I used to model American trains and bought a LOT of stuff from the US. The 'bad days' were more than compensated by the savings over the years, but for a one off purchase you should be aware of the potential gotchas.)

If you bring it back with you provided it's value is less than about £140 (you'll need to check that value) you pay nothing and don't need to declare it. If it's more then you should declare it and should get hammered for duty and VAT.

(For stuff that is posted back the limit is only about £30 IIRC.)

Look At £480 to £500 + p/p. if they use a Courier then you will get hammered for VAT on that china or HK post no vat. Use a VISA card if you but check this post out.
