Title: Bench top power source

What is the recommended bench top power source ,so I do not have to use the battery for testing.

Why not the battery? Always best to test stuff with as near to 'real' set up as possible.

I have a couple of sealed lead acid batteries, one 6v, the other 12v which I use for general testing purposes. They only need topping up every few months. You can also buy DC voltage reducers (usually with a car cigarette plug) which will give several voltages from a 12v source.

You can convert old pc power supplies to do this. Look on google plenty of easy to follow instructions on how to convert them
