I need to get myself a mini drill and wonder if anyone can reccomend a good quality one. Seems to be plenty on e bay and also a freebie offer if I subscribe to Model Boats.

Try the little "Proxxon" effort. Done me well for ages and is still going strong....and pretty cheap as well.

I subscribed 3-4 weeks ago, still awaiting my drill set :(
I have a range of Minicraft drills and tools anyway. A company called CPC based in Preston does a good deal on these. Not sure if they sell to the public but I registered as a customer on their website. http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp (http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp) They used to do the mfa range and other r/c bits at one point.

I got a Proxxon circular saw a few years ago, and haven't bought any stripwood since, it's an excellent tool, and has paid for itself many times over. My first one failed within a few months with a faulty motor, so after phoning the supplier, I sent it back. I got a new one within a couple of days, and an improved spec as well. Everything I've seen from Proxxon is worth every penny.

Proxxon, every time. I have a whole range of their tools (drills; grinders [straight and angle]; polishers; fretsaw etc) and find them all excellent. They are not cheap but living in France I buy from a discounting dealer in Germany.
Highly recommended.

Many thanks chaps, I had never heard of them until now and such a range of tools. Looks as if Proxxon is the way to go.

Taxi ,,,I got the one of model boats today,came with the mag. its a bit light weight I have a couple of minicraft 12v ones that have done a lot of work,(I don't think the freebie one will) and a mini proxon sander The pen one and they all work well, any new ones will be proxon though. Peter

Yes, I'd agree with that. I've had my current Dremel for about 10 years, and it's great, the only problem with these things is the front bearing which needs re-packing with a suitable grease every year or so, depending of course how much you use the thing. Not the easiest of jobs, but you'll need to replace the bearing eventually if you don't. Dremel don't seem to be as widely distributed as they used to be since Miicroflame had the distribution rights taken from them, and having been so impressed with Proxxon stuff, I'd certainly take a look at their minidrills before buying another tool of this kind from any other manufacturer.

Draper do a one but steer clear of the cheepies off e-bay and aldi and the like, they won't last five minutes.
