Hi All
I have just started building Graupners Rau1X and the instructions suggest
Using a Decaperm but my pockets aren’t that deep I thought about using
A direct drive 545 any help will be appreciated can be 6 or 12 volt

Probably a generic 5 pole 700 type rather than a 545 would be a better equivalent. A 545 (or a 540) would probably need a gearbox. Having a browse in the forum should throw up some answers.

The Decaperm was a decent enough motor in its time but has been superseded by better and cheaper alternatives. I would fit either a geared MFA Torpedo 500 (£20-ish) or a direct-drive Graupner Speed 720 Torque (£40-ish), both running at 12v.

Not really a minefield. More spoilt for choice. There is in my opinion no exact science.Some want speed others long run time or torque for towing. So often advise can vary. John.

Ok perhaps a minefield was the wrong word, but thats what this forum is all about , you get good advice, I wanted a cheaper alternative and members responded with options and thats exactly what I was looking for. I have an old kit and things have changed a lot from when this kit was being produced. What motor would you suggest ? model length 40" beam 7" weight 11lb prop size 3" Require scale speed with a bit extra to get out of trouble, running time required no more than 2 hours 6 or 12 volt
