Title: RNLI Lifeboat collection box

  Lifeboat collection box

Hi to all

I'm after some advice / help for collecting money at wakes held at my yacht club.
We have good relations with our local RNLI area co-ordinator but there is an apparent shortage of modern, attractive collection items. Infact there only seems to be the dark blue or white Watson pulling boats in tired condition with awkward entries, a slot and a angled hole, into the money holding space.
At our wakes, last week's another good friend who was much too young, the boat is on the bar and causes huge disruption there, as people try to get notes folded or rolled small enough to push in, so we resort to beer glasses around the model.
This unfortunately is considered risky in a large and very busy club bar area.
Last weeks event brought in over £1000 at the bar alone!
A solution I have thought of is to use a RNLI wellington boot on a plinth, as an easy item to push money into, but I would much rather a boat model, maybe a Trent class, as that is our local main boat at Sheerness.
Any thoughts, comments or practical offers would be most appreciated with the ideal future being something that can be donated to the Medway-Kent- South East... whatever area of the RNLI , to assist them in their excellent work.

Regards
Rod

Instead off trying to find a single item which will double-up as the collection receptacle, why not find a suitable base (e.g. a wooden chest) for collecting donations, and mount an suitable 'display-item' on top of it?
As it shouldn't be too difficult to make the 'display-item' removable, the collection-box base could easily be tailored to suit a variety of causes by simply replacing the top-piece with alternate, 'event-appropriate' features.

How about something eye catchingly different and taking Andy's lead changeable. I am thinking about those small electronic picture frames that can slide show images. Ok the collection box isn't integral but directly underneath or nearby would do the job. I am sure the small investment would be recouped very quickly. Probably a yacht member has an unused one from a previous x'mas

If all else fails, the local branch should be able to supply you with an official collecting bucket?
Congratulations on your efforts,it is good to hear of the support you are getting.
Thanks,

I'm liking that idea Dave Dave, and as long as the collection box was secure, it could be installed/hidden in, or amongst, a variety of apparently 'unsecure' items, i.e. a Fishing net with glass floats, a Lobster-basket, a wooden barrel, a life-ring or life-jacket, etc.
