Title: RG65 Dragon Force
Post by: tony23 on December 22, 2012, 02:28:26 pm
Hi,
I thought I would tell you about a new RTR sailing yacht shortly to hit the waters its an RG65 Class it's been developed by a couple of friends of mine and will be produced by Joysway and sold in the UK by Ripmax it's called a Dragon Force. Mike Weston (http://www.rcyachts.org.uk/ (http://www.rcyachts.org.uk/)) developed the boat with some big names in the yacht racing scene like Mark Dicks and John Tushingam (Graphite sails). They are in the process of drawing up a set of rules for the Dragon Force so it can be used as a one design within the RG65 parameters.  :-))

Ned, when this boat arrives it will be cheaper than a Micro Magic if you want plain sails John Tushingham can supply them the idea of the boat is to get people saing RG65's cheaply, no doubt people will want to ungrade there boats that's up to them!  ok2

If the rules are one design then there will be next to no mods allowed.
Aracing sparrow rg65 can be built for less

I appreciate some will not want to build, but sail
straight out of the box and it will get more into
Rc sailing, but I would thought that a yacht that looked like a
serious sailer than a garish toy would have impressed
would be sailors.

its not the transport to/ from the lake that concerns me , its the draught that the model will need when sailing  . the photo shows a very deep keel . jon

the press release photos make the keel look much longer than just over a foot , our local lake can get very shallow, sometimes even the micro magics hit the bottom  ! jon

Nice concept, I wouldn't mind one as a change from the Vic.  The sails do look tacky and I'm not a lover of "invisible" black hulls. Oh, and if that keel is half the length of the boat http://www2.ripmax.net/Item.aspx?ItemID=B-JS-8803&Category=050-010-020# (http://www2.ripmax.net/Item.aspx?ItemID=B-JS-8803&Category=050-010-020#), they have some very funny cameras in China!!
Cheers

Edit - just measured it on screen - hmmm, not far off!  Looks CAN be deceptive!!

It certainly is impressive on the water.
If I can stick an orange rx in it as a straight swop if the
TxRx setup is not too hot.
If I have to buy plain sails will it still be a bargain.
Will wait and see but I am very tempted.
So easy to stick in the car not like my Marblehead.
Lets have a fullreport on here from the first buyer.

spoke to some younger members of the family and the verdict about the sails that they are cool,so maybe josway is doing the right thing to drag the youngsters in,this was i believe was the original idea..tony

When I spoke to the Ripmax rep there was some talk of bringing in a version with no radio fitted, to suit those who would want to fit their own gear. It wouldn't shave much off of the retail price though.

with regards to the DRAGON FORCE the boat is aimed at the son/father who go to their local model shop, the sail graphics will attract youngsters and plain white sails will be available.
from what i hear it is getting a lot of GOOD PRESS around the world
the radio is easily swappable with your FAVOURED set (which probably cost more than the complete DRAGON FORCE)
i have had two RG65's in my car rigged and ready to go
hope this is of help

regards

Mark

I'm quite excited by what I've read about this model.  I would definately replace the receiver with one compatible with the rest of my gear, saving on carrying another transmitter and batteries around, so a SKU without TX/RX would be good for some of us even if it only saves a few £ off the final price.

I think I shall have to give it a go :-)) :-))
The guys involved in the development have very
good CVs.
I was going to build an RG65 for the summer to get
Grandson interested in the rag and stick element
but this is sounding ok (he will like the sail graphics <:()
What is the earliest date in UK

Hi Mark,
I was talking about Mike and John although I'm sure we could have met in the racing scene, I think Mike at CMYachts has also ordered a batch I have 4 members in my club with pre orders. Our club is already talking about having a Wednesday evening summer series meeting sailing RG65's so I'm interested in an ICE with John's sails.

My understanding is that the model is designed to comply with the RG65 rules and John and Mike are looking at a prize for the first place Dragon Force boat in standard trim at open events for the RG65 and there are not any separate rules as the boat was designed within the RG65 international rules, and as such the sails can be replaced with panelled sails from most sailmakers

with regards to GBR 28's comments, only single panelled sails will be allowed under the "One Design Rules".

there will also be a complete range of spares including 2 smaller rigs and a shorter fin.

all this was discussed at the weekend with joysway in Germany and has yet to be finalised

regards

Mark
