Thundrebirds creator Gerry Anderson died today, His creations kept me entertained throughout my childhood and beyond , yes, I still enjoy an episode or two of Stingray, Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5. Yet another pioneer gone for ever but not forgotten......

he was my hero as a young kid.........loved the progs, loved the models even more......and inspired me to carry on the good work that my granddad had taught me.....the basics on how to model..........only wish I could have been involved in some of them....that would have been a dreamjob...........
he brought a new dimension to kids ( and adults ) and has to be greatly admired for that.....looking forward to some re runs of XL5 and Thunderbirds..great stuff.
No one ever mentions though his first forray into the puppet theatre...Four Feather Falls......brilliant..

i followed his visions since i was a tiny nipper and through adult life , i cant remember ever seeing 4 feather falls but his best 1 's to me were Stingray and Thunderbirds ( mind you all his series were good ) , i am also pretty sure he had something to do with an even older puppet programe called Space Patrol

if it's the space patrol i recall that came long after Torchy the battery boy, four feathers falls, Fireball XL5, Stingray, thunderbirds, joe 90 , Captain Scarlet,andTerrahawks. such a sad loss.
Hope there will be a tribute to him on tv somewhere.

Space Patrol was actually created by Roberta Leigh, who had worked on Fireball XL5 with Gerry Andersen. and was released in 1962. Gerry Andersons first big show was Torchy The Battery Boy. There is loads of clips and full episodes of all his works on You-tube......

Never saw "Five Feathers" but was an avid viewer of Stingray. Was moving on to other things when Thunderbirds hit the screens but appreciated the occasional episode. Interested to see that he had quite an involvement in TV and even did a script for "Moonraker" for the James Bond producers. It was not used but they pinched parts for the movie for which Gerry got little compensation. Well done Gerry RIP.

My wife and I used to be friends with Babs, daughter of Producer Reg Hill. He sadly died in 1999.
Takes me back to the time of Captain Scarlet and our passion for slot car racing.

it appears i was about 4 when Space patrol and Fireball XL5 were 1st produced wow cant remember much else from that age but i do remember Super Car , mind you i always thought Space Patrol came 1st , i must be getting addled in my old age lol

i was lucky enough to meet him and work for his daughter for a few weeks, restoring 'zeros' from terrahawks some 20 plus years ago.......
a sad loss, RIP Gerry......

Thunderbirds was the absolute highlight of the week for me as a kid.
Nothing in life couldn't be solved with courage, a united family, a brainy bloke ... and a great big machine!

I often wonder where those fine ship models went to once used for filming, and how big they were.

Now that Sir is a question worthy of an answer. Another thread was talking of the value or lack of it in preserving ships and locos ..... But the Anderson models are truly social history and I'd love to see an Anderson museum.

I would hazard a guess that a, a certain proportion of them will have been flogged off as memorabilia, and b, what remains is more than likely lying forgotten in a studio warehouse somewhere.....

Four Feather Falls was Andersen's 3rd TV series, the first being The Adventures of Twizzle and the 2nd being Torchy the Battery Boy......
