I have just purchased the "Amati" Rope works from Cornwall boats. It arrived in good time but all the written instructions are in Italian, a language I don't speak and the diagrams are not very clear. I have contacted the seller who in their turn contacted Amati in Italy who say they do not do English instructions. can anybody help me to put it together? many thanks Adrian

Hi there, Could you post some photos of the parts and maybe scans of the instruction diagrams? It would make it easier for the collective Mayhem brains to help fathom it all out.

I don't have a scanner. :(( must get one. i'll try to do some photos and post them. It appears to be a very useful tool which clamps on the work bench but it comes "Flat packed" ready to build but what it shows in the first diagram can't be done. I really need someone who has one and succeeded in building it to help me. If I get a pretty Italian girl, does that mean i have to get rid of the gorgeous Scandinavian girl I got when doing a Billings boat kit :-)

This is the rope walk I am talking about. If you look carefully, you will see the ring attached to a plastic gear. This is achieved by screwing the ring into a small brass pipe whihis then fitted as an ale through the gear. Unfortunately. the hole in the gear is far too small for the brass tube to fit through it.

Can you not ease the hole a bit, I am assuming the brass tube needs to be an interference fit in the hole, otherwise it would not grip in the gear enough for it to turn.....

It has to be a tight fit

That is probably why it appears to be too big, you could try pressing it in with a vice or clamp, interference fits usually need pressing into place....It may also help if you put the brass bits in the freezer for half an hour or so, and file a slight lead in on the end of the tube, just spin it around in an electric drill and file a slight taper on one end to get it started...
