Hi All,
I have just been informed that member Mick B (irishcarguy) has suffered another stroke, and is in hospital. He is doing fairly well, but has lost the use of his fingers on his left hand, and unfortunately,he is left handed. He will be out of action for a while.
I am sure you will join me in wishing him all the best for a good recovery, and send our support to Phyll, his dear wife.
Thanks,

-
All the best for a good recovery. Hope you are back on here soon. You have been missed.
-
My info tonight is that his hand is affected but his wife mentioned none of the 'expected' issues we think of whenever we hear 'stroke'. He is in hospital which is the best place he can be just now. He can be assured of our thoughts and best wishes.
He has recently sent me a CV joint he has been enthusiastically developing and modifying. In all our conversations it was clear to me that Mick was doing it on 'our' behalf as Mayhemmers. I am having difficulty posting pictures but Pettyofficernick has kindly offered to post them if I start a new thread. I'll do that and I hope you look in and see what Mick has come up with for us.
Dave
-
thanks for the update Dave.Yes please,do start the thread from Mick,I for one will be very interested.

Hi guys
Micks wife has sent a pm. I don't think she would mind it being posted openly and as it explains Mick's dilema ....
Thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes for Mick. He needs surgery to clear the blockage in the artery in his neck that caused the stroke. The usual way to do this is to inject a dye into his bloodstream and use technology to see exactly where the blockage is and thus put the stint in directly. The problem for Mick is that due to the medication he was taking for his gout, he has poor kidneys. The dye would be too much for them to take and he would end up on dialysis for the rest of his life. Fix one problem, create another. Right now the surgeons are trying to decide the best approach to take. Mick also has a blockage in the arteries on his heart, so the solution will be quite complex. All needs to be resolved so that there are no re-occurences of stroke or heart attack. No date on surgery as yet. Thanks again for all of your good wishes, I will pass them on to Mick. He misses you guys, too, so take care of yourselves, too!
So from reading that we can all see Mick has a way to go yet; what I can say is he is not the type of guy to give up the struggle so onwards and upwards Mick!!!
Dave
-
So sad to read this update. Things sound serious but hopefully all will go well and he will be back posting again. My thoughts are for him and his family. John.

Hi guys, here is the latest update edit on Mick :} :-))
"It's 12:04 am Tuesday 22 January. It has been a very long day. Mick had His surgery at 1pm and it was expected to take 2 to 2 1/2 hours but took 3 1/2 hours. The surgeons were pleased with how it went. Then difficulty arose when Unfortunately some trauma was caused to Mick's throat waking him. I saw him and he recognized me and was responding well to everything. He will be in ICU thru to Wednesday I hope, then on the recovery floor for a couple of days. The big thing now is that he doesn't catch pneumonia. "

if its anything like my dad when he was in hospital just before christmas, he has all his royal naval association mates round, he had the whole ward in stitches - patients and staff as well as visitors, when they were discussing the daily rum tot and someone mentioned diluting it with water, in a loud voice he exclaimed - 'water, cant have water fish have sex in water' at which point badly surpressed giggles could be heard throughout.
All the best to Mick for a swift recovery with no complications.

Hi Folks
Here is the latest news from Canada
"Hello Everybody,
Great news about Mick today! The doctors decided his throat had healed enough and extubated him this afternoon! His voice was raspy and so good to hear. He did well on the nebulizer and was sleeping comfortably when I left this evening. He will be moved up to a ward room tomorrow for a night or two and then HOME!!
It's been a long haul and thank you all for supporting us through it.
Phyllis"

While he is recovering, has anyone got a pair of Graupner 900s that they could sell to Mick please? He has been hunting for them for quite a while to put in his 1/12th Scale Tamar Lifeboat? I am sure this would cheer him up no end!
thanks,
Mick F
-
You are right there Mick. I have been ringing around everyone all week but no one seems to have them. Graupner site says nicht mehr lieferbar - no longer available {:-{
Dave
-
fingers crossed that one of our many members may turn up trumps!
Mick F
-
Get well soon Mick!
Ali

He will be back soon, because he is missing all his friends on mayhem.martin

Mick's phone provider have offered to pay hospital costs that relate to his voice O0
Third quarter profits are down and share holders have demanded urgent action {-)
Dave
-
Hi
If Mick is in Canada, this company may be more "local" to him and are advertising the proper Graupners as "in stock"
http://www.v-eastonline.com/products/Speed-900-BB--12v..html
-
Sorry Spearfish - says currently unavailable in the description. The search continues ...
I emailed Graupner de. last night and asked what / when a replacement was due?
Dave
-
fingers crossed that one of our many members may turn up trumps!
Mick F
Stavros was indicating that he has a stash - or was it an equivalent motor. %)
Barrie
-
There have been threads on here advising of motors on ebay of very similar specification to that of the Graupner 900, not sure where now though, but the purchasers made very favourable and positive comments - will have another look see. Regards, Tony.
-
The motors in question were from a production overrun and some of the pristine ones were sold by Action and others.
A load that had been stored and suffered cosmetic water damage were sold on the bay at 12 coins of the realm but alas they have all
Gone.
Ned
-
I have two of those for a current project {-) do wish I had bought more. What was the ebay sellers id? I have such a poor memory for names.
I was reading a thread somewhere else :embarrassed: that was comparing stats on several motors suggested/supposed to be Graupner 900 BB equivilents (some even hinting that they were Graupner) -All those ones turned out to be inferior. Can't see Mick buying crud.
Dave
-
If I remember it was Dave at Action who suggested that Mick use the 900s,and to avoid brushless? I have decided to go brushless with my Tamar, never having used them myself, and upon recommendation,I bought a pair of Pelikan motors from a supplier in Bristol.I wish I had bought the Esc's from them at the same time, but ordered them instead from Hobbyking Hong Kong (separate thread elsewhere on mayhem) and just last week received my completed order, the last item being the programmer almost 3 months.I did mention the motors I decided on to Mick, but he really wants the 900s,that's why I put in my request to help him out.
I hope we can find some for him.
Cheers,
Mick F
-
{-) Yes Mick has developed a 'Stalker' mentality for them {-) Boys & Toys eh.
No news today so all must be well with Mick.
Dave
-
If I remember it was Dave at Action who suggested that Mick use the 900s,and to avoid brushless?
Not quite, young sir. Mick B had already said that he didn't want to use brushless motors so the 900BB was the obvious choice. I wouldn't advise anyone to avoid brushless as they are clearly so suitable for large scale lifeboats. I think it was simply a technology with which he didn't feel comfortable.
If I had two he could have them without question, but I didn't even save any for myself!
DM
-
Sorry Dave, didnt mean the comment in an adverse way! You have made my day calling me young man though!
Mick F
-
Thanks for the memory jogger Ned, knew I'd seen similar postings if not same thing, but couldn't find info using forum search. Great memory - or researcher? regards, Tony.
-
Hi Guys
I emailed Graupner and here is the reply - super quick.
The technician recommends the following replacement:
For the motor
Item no. 7774 Graupner Compact
510FZ 18.5 V
and for the controller
Item no. 7236 Brushless Control
60 SBEC plug G2
Both items are currently in stock.
Brushless though {:-{ not what Mick wanted.

First & formost let me say I was blown away by the huge response I received when you were informed of my illness. The word 'thank you" in no way expresses the support that you all have given me. A bit of background is in order, when I awoke on Friday 11th of January two of the fingers on my left hand were "asleep". A little later the third & then the fourth went the same way. Phyllis got very worried(I have had a stroke before) & took me straight to the hospital. As soon as the nurse saw my hand they admitted me on the spot. Friday night & Saturday were given to test after test to the point I had my own personal porter. All this showed the artery to my right cortex was virtually blocked & might cause a major stroke at any moment. They decided to operate right away on Monday. One doctor from Saudi, one from Iran & the main surgeon was Chinese. When the Chinese doctor visited me before the operation I paid particular attention to how steady his hands were & asked how much practice he had, he said hundreds. Then the doctor that knocks you out came & I asked how big a Mallet he had to use, I am sure they thought I was a nut case. His name was Fraser so must have a touch of Scottish in himHere I should tell you that I have had Gout for a long time & the meds for it were affecting my kidneys to the point that they could not use dye to install stints so had to operate on artery to clear the plaque. I have sleep apnea and normally use a air mask to sleep. All went well with the operation until I did not start breathing, panic, I am not sure how fast but they put a tube in to my lungs & got me started again. I had the tube & also a feeding tube for 3 days & let me tellyou you NEVER want it in you,for me it was one constant gag. Because of low oxygen intake it was decided that it was better not to move me so I was in ICU until Phyllis brought me home,( 11 days) a very rare occurrence they tell me. The room was state of the art & very bright with great lighting & a modern T/V, you could even see all your vital signs on it.to you all once again a big thank you, Phyllis in particular felt your support every day,you really don't realise what a great group of Guys & girls you are, I have lived a long time & never had this kind of support. Thank you Martin for your website & last but not least to my friend Dave & Jenny (Norsman)who stayed in touch every day & kept you all informed about me. On a sad note I was upset to hear of Peters death, he was a friend to us all & will be sadly missed, RIP. Mick.B. PS = I will at a later date contact all that sent personal messages & will also explain more about the C/V joint that Petty officer Nick & Dave so kindly posted for me & YES it is a true C/V joint because it will drive through 360 degrees without binding. It is also very strong & there is repair kits also available, but more on that later, I am tired now. Yes the nurses were lovely but as soon as you start to notice they send you home.
-
All the very best wishes to you & Phyllis, looking forwards to your future posts.
john
-
Thank you John for your kind words, Mick B.
