Title: FOUND ON THE BEACH
Post by: Neil on January 30, 2013, 10:51:43 am
it's amazing whaat you find on the beach these days.....

just driving along Fleetwood prom this morning, taking in the bracing sea air and what did I aspye......but a Cabin cruiser ( not disimilar in shape to the model Sea Commander/Queen) washed up on Knott End beach............looks a little the worse for the winter storms we've been having, and from prevailing wind and tide, probably made it over Morecambe Bay from the Barrow area........but don't think it's going anywhere soon now up there.....pity it ain't nearer Bonfire night, lol

Sadly someone's pride and joy is no longer.

Unfortunately I only had my phone to snap a shot and as it's about 200mts away on the other side of the river, didn't come out too well........it's the little lump middle picture.

What have you lot found on the beach this week??? %% %% %%

didn't need to Ian.....Fleetwood Lifeboat station and Knott End Coastguard station overlook the thing and probably are wondering how long the local council are going to take to get rid of the wreckage.

Sadly on a more sombre note, (as I have just read in the latest local paper) from the point on the beach where I took the shot this morning  a bait digger found the body of the man yesterday morning, who was washed into the sea at Blackpool on New year's Eve.
At least his family now have him back with them, for a proper funeral.
RIP Paul Morris.

Its amazing how long they can stay in the sea, but always seem to turn up eventually. They recently found one here that had been in the water since last October.

Sad, but as you say, at least the family get some peace eventually.

It's the build up of gas in the body that brings it back to the surface after a few days. That is often why they cannot be found immediately if not wearing a flotation device.

There's nothing too surprising about a boat found washed up on a north west beach. I've spent many a happy hour videoing wrecks around the coast of Walney and even came across one of my own ex-boats one day  :embarrassed:

any idea how it became a wreck

I spent weeks with it in a garage re-skinning the hull and sold it shorty after to a young lad who was full of fire to the point where within a couple of months he'd bought a fishing boat and left poppy on a wet mooring unsupervised. We had a pretty bad storm one night and she slipped her mooring and was seen the following day pounding the shingle beach at high tide where I took the video. I still have the samson post in the shed to this day. :-)

This lump of ambergris is about the size of a partially deflated football and he has been offered 50,000 euros
if it turns out to be the real thing

This was found on my beach yesterday, but it's nearer to being back in the water now too.
