Can anyone help me, my wife bought me the Tyne Class tug Joffre for Christmas which I'm delighted with, however this is a first for me. I have a few questions that I would like answering before taking the plunge and starting the biuld. I'm quite nervous in case I make a mess of it. I can read plans so there is no problem there but the ones furnished with the kit are quite vague and lack essential information. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has built this model, or for any general advice.

Lucky you :-)) I don't know the kit myself, but there is a 1/48 plan of the Joffre available here (http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/17047/joffre-mm1240-tug-plan) that might help if you are not satisfied with the one included in the kit.

By the way, did you know, Joffre was one of the tugs who joined RMS Olympic, Titanics sister to the scrapyard in 1935...

Hi Bart..........I built one many years ago, and as you say, the plans were the usual Caldercraft "Not to Scale" jobbies, and only give a vague idea as to the possitioning of the fittings.......but like many I persevered, and that is probably why you'll never ever see two Joffre's exactly the same at an exibition.
If there are scale plans available, they probably won't match up to the kit anyway in exactitude.
My own personal memory of the build was that the wheel house had some small vageries to it, but with a little adaptation it went together ok........in fact the model as a whole is a nice little model to build and will give lots of pleasure both in building and sailing later on.

she also ran aground somewhere of Start Point in Devon in the 1930's and was aground for some time before being salvaged and put back into service.

must admit I enjoyed it, but think I would like to build one next size up at 1:32 scale but I do have plans for this one which I think is dilectable..

I've got the same kit. Maybe I should pull it out and build it and do a build thread on it at the same time.

If you look on here some one called marinaru did a great build of the Joffre I Have the kit to along with a few other tyne tugs not sure to might need the help from Martin as I think it was before the melt down but its worth finding as he made a great job of it.

Sounds like a great idea, I'm hoping to start my build at the weekend, I keep putting it off, because it's my first build and I'm nervous. So, if you started building yours it would be of great benefit to me. I would be interested to see whether or not my concerns are shared by another person, so go for it

Take it one step at a time, enjoy the build, and I know there are so many folk on here that can put you right with suggestions and advice - "don't panic Mr Mannering"!!

It was not planned to start another build as I have two other unfinished projects...
But then I like the idea of building a kit the same time as some other mayhem members, so I think I check if there is a kit available at Cornwall modelboats tonight :D

Hi TonyI've made up my mind I'm starting tomorrow, so nobody try and stop me I've got all my tools out and I'm staring at the boat and I think I have it frightened. It looks good sitting there in it's cradle, hope it still looks good when I've finished with it

I'm going to be starting the build thread on the Joffre, perhaps this weekend. I got my kit out last night and reviewed it. It does look onerous, but its not if you break it down into a step by step process. There are a pile of excellent castings in it.
It'll be good to have several interested builders putting in their comments and process's as we go along.

Hi Ian, well not one you'd put on the fire! {-) Hopefully you will be posting your build sequence on here with lots of step by step pics - warts an' all - (we ALL have those along the way) As John put it "threads of your build" as in a 'logbook'. I'm sure everyone will be wishing you well and looking forward as to how your getting on.
