Title: Model boats
Post by: Bart on February 07, 2013, 02:53:38 pm
Hi Everyone My name is Ian Barter and I live just a few miles south of Newcastle upon Tyne, in a place called Birtley, although I've built models on and off most of my life,  I have never taken on a large project, like the one I'm about to start, so I'm a novice. My wife Jane bought me a tug boat called Joffre just before christmas, which I'm itching to start. My kids bought me the various components to turn the boat into a radio controlled model, I am for some reason quite nervous about starting the build and would love someone to give me some advice, any advice. so any old salty sea dog out there wants to contact me, I'll be all ears. If I make a success of this build it will give me something to do with my time, as I have had to retire from work early because of ill health and as a consequence sit at home pulling my hair out, thinking what I can do with my time. I've worked with my hands all my life and find it frustrating that I can no longer do any strenuous work. I would appreciate any help please!!!!!.

Regards

Ian

Ian,
Isnt that the Caldercraft kit.
They used to have good instructions.
But if not start at the back end with shaft, prop and rudder.

Bob

PS Your location in your profile would help

Hi Bob
yes it is the kit from Caldercraft, with a fibre glass hull, the instructions don't have any dimensions on them so I suppose I'll just have to scale them off, however I think because I'm not used to looking at this type of instruction booklet/drawing I'm probably expecting more. I tried to put my location on my profile but it didn't come up. I live just south of Newcastle upon Tyne in a place called Birtley. I'll have another try.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian, I am not a million miles away from you and I own the same tug boat and have another in restoration so I can try and help you if you get stuck.
This forum is a great place to be and the folks here are always a great help.

 Enjoy the build!  :-))

I'll enjoy seeing you build the Joffre and I'll be interested to see any information on the actual tug.

Bart

Did you ever start to build that Joffre you mentioned above? If so, how're you making out?

John
