Title: Singapore...dockyard.
Post by: Bryan Young on May 19, 2007, 07:52:36 pm
This was taken in 1988.
This was the period that the Iranians were targetting unarmed tankers and such with small, fast speedboats.
A lot of the "casualties" went to Singapore (Sembawang) dockyard to be fixed.
The photo shows the relative sizes of ships to good advantage. The "O" class RFA (Olwen) in the background is about 33,000 tons, and the flight-deck is about 50' above the water. In this photo the flight deck was below the level of the propeller of the large tanker in the background. That "little" tanker (Olwen) was around 660' long. On this forum (recently) we have discussed the advent of super-large liners. That big monstrosity in the background is roughly the size you will see.....except it will be a "Liner".
I leave you with your own thoughts about "cruises".
