Lovely pics Bowwave! I served on "Lusty" in '82 and again '83 - '85... albeit as Squadron personnel, rather than ships company, but had some fantastic times on her.
-
Very strange.
As a student at Newcastle University, I witnessed her (from a vantage point near North Shields) setting off for the Falklands in late '82 (? I think ?)
Earlier, they'd been an open day for people to wander around the ship. I was in the queue, behind a family with young kids. One of the children had asked his Dad "will it cost anything to go onboard?", to which his father replied "I bloody hope not - it's already cost me hundreds to build the bloody thing." :}

I still think you missed your calling Dave(Norseman)you should be in research with MI5 or the CIA (wonder if this remark draws the spy networks)I have never seen anybody that can find information like you do, I wish I had that kind of skill. Mick B. (now waiting for the knock on the door)
-
i was sat waiting to tip my load of scrap on the dock and watched her coming in hope iam in the same place when she goes back out i might get some pictures then instead of sitting there opened mouthed and forgetting to take the pictures %% %%

Well worth the effort....took about a hour to get on, which was not bad considering the amount of people, plus we were entertained by the Royal Marines Brass Band.
Cool to be standing on a bit of history.

I have never seen so many people waiting to go aboard a single warship, amazing . I was told that over 10000 went aboard on Saturday , I can only guess the number for today.

Lusty is always popular, I have been aboard a couple of times at Portsmouth.
And of course she is now the last survivor of her class.
Colin (Who collided with her in his yacht many years ago....)
-
Well at least you got a real close up look at her, but how much did it cost ?. Mick B.
-
I got a caution!
Colin
