Hi... following on from a previous thread regarding building with styrene....
I have decided to have a go at scratch building a sub from plans.... so... does anyone know where I could get plans that show the hull frames and lines? I am considering an Akula, (which would probably be possible without a full plan), as its quite a straight forward shape. I have a plan of the French sub Surcouf, but I am not sure about that one... a WW2 British or US sub would be quite good but finding the complete plan is tricky. Any help would be appreciated...

John Lambert for plans of WWII Brit boats. Nice drawings.
Fair few free plans/drawings at this link- http://www.heiszwolf.com/subs/plans/plans.html
Also worth looking at cardboard models. Many submarines have been modelled in card, and the patterns can be lofted onto plastic sheet, which saves a lot of time and effort.

Thanks Subculture...
I shall have a look at both those suggestions.

Could I suggest this supplier of cardboard models:
http://www.marcle.co.uk/index.htm (http://www.marcle.co.uk/index.htm)
You will find lots of subs in there. For the superstructure of my simple to make U Class model (Dzik) I copied the cardboard version to a bigger scale and cut it directly out of metal sheet. A very simple way of making superstructure.
You will see photos of this on the AMS Forum (Search for U uPVC class) You will also find more info on plans in there.

Well if you get it built quick, you can bring it to the Norwich Submarine Weekend in July.

Paper replika (sic) is pretty good for free paper and card models. Some are more accurate than others, but they all have the potential of being build into nice looking models.

It did cross my mind.... speed-building is not a strong point with me though... I shall have a go! Do you manage the shop in Watton Paul?

This is a great site.... if you circumvent the false download buttons that take you off somewhere else! I downloaded the Los Angeles Class Sub... which looks like a good subject for a build...Nice and straight forward... No Akula unfortunately.
