Hi Vaas,
It all depends on how many masts she,s got, and what sails you want
to control. You may get away with a 2 channel, but to be honest some
2.4, 5/6 channel sets are not expensive and will give you more scope

@Vaas:
I am currently working on a square rigger (3 masts, 11 square sails, spanker, staysail, 2 x jibs) - I will be starting with three channels (rudder and two winches, one winch is for the foremast and the second for combined main & mizzen)
I am following examples from elsewhere, it seems this setup works for others, hoping it works for me.  :-)
With this arrangement it is possible to also include jib control with the foremast winch and spanker control with the aft winch - I am not going to include this for the moment.... I am getting close to a test sail, so will know before long...

There is a good range of budget 2.4 radios at www.hobbyking.com (http://www.hobbyking.com) - I have quite a few, they work fine...

with the cost of many of the 2.4ghz multi chanel sets these days being around the same as an older tech 27/ 40 mhz 2 channel  id go for the 2.4ghz every time , even if your current model only need two chanels the next one may need more , much cheaper to buy one rx than a whole new outfit . another bonus is no waiting for an available frequnecy at the lake .  i have three different 2.4 ghz sets  a basic tamco 6 ( its going in my spare micro magic for family use ) my gf uses a planet twister with her three models , ive just bought myself a spektrum dx6i as ive ten plus models ( mostly sailing boats ) jon

Get the orange rxs for the Spektrum Jon
I use them in a Victoria and a Marblehead.
Cheap as chips and no problems at all.

Sorry.
They only work with Spektrum transmitters.

They are available from Hobby King.

There are now orange RX's that are suitable for Futaba Fasst systems, and also some of Hobby kings own Transmitters, but as you rightly said there are none that are compatible with the planet system
