Title: Choosing the right propeller for a tug
Post by: fatboy on March 25, 2013, 02:17:32 pm
How do you determine the best (or correct) propeller for a single screw tug? I'm working on the Douglas Greg (Hartman) tug and looking for a formula for determining the best pulling prop. for the application. :-))

The Prop Shop or Swan has a bunch of different types of props , Did you want scale looks or more power , If I remember your vessel is an open wheel single rudder, A scale unit would be a 3 blade ,But for you to have a 5 blade would not change the power curve drain from your battery much, But would put the Ballard pull up a bunch.
But the motor choice you have is important and the gearing as well.
You also have to feed the power from the battery to the motor. Small cells don't deliver power quickly the largest battery you can get in is the best choice, NiMh or Nicads can deliver power the fastest but only run short time.
