Picked up my second hand 34'' barge today. Fiberglass hull with wood deck, needs a bit of tlc but came with batteries, speed controller, motor. Slight issue with motor as I could not get it to run with my TX and RX-rudder worked fine, power was getting to the speed controller, but the motor would not run. Was going to try a Tamiya controller I have but decided to remove the motor and have a good look-the problem seems to be a broken wire from the controller to the motor, bodged it and it worked okay, will fix the wiring issue. Need to add some sealent to the bottom of the wood that holds the motor casing as this is loose, the torque from the thing has loosened it, also need some better screws to hold the motor case to the wood as these had worn loose. All in all a very heavy and robust boat with a few detailing bits, a anti-slip floor made to cover up the green woodwork and other bits she should be a fine boat.

Out of hand! Hmmm, don't let my missus see your post. I only want two boats as that is the max I can have...mainly due to room. My lifeboat is going as I cannot do that due to my hands so the cash from that has paid for this...well, it will when I sell it. The switch and servo fit into the cut out on the right side of the wood, that's why it looks hacked :). I also promise that this boat will have only slight weathering...HONEST!

YOU...HELP! MY MISSUS HAS HIJACKED MY THREAD! Good job I know you...I was rather shocked to see a new post by me on my thread...I was sure I hadn't posted one...I was begining to doubt myself until I read it. am addicted.Best of luck with the barge it looks a very interesting project with lots of different prospects available ,barges come in all shapes
and sizes carrying all types of cargo so the scope is there to make a really great boat,let us see how it turns out,Ray. {-) {-)

Ta Ray, she is a very capable craft with so much potential. As for the two boats...trust me, if I want another then one of these will have to go.

Float test on empty hull has shown no leaks, although she sits low down in the stern, but with batteries and cargo she should be okay.

the batteries will ballast it out level. The barge looks like a good buy, nice and simple, no fiddly bits to break off.

Top tip In Pic 2 I see you have used a crimp on to the motor <*< NOT a good practise at all get it soldered or you might well have an embarrisement in th emiddle of the lake when the crimp falls off...What happens is that with time and the heat build up they get loose and will fall off....seen it happen time after time O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

Cheers Mike, she is nice and simple, going to keep her that way, just adding some stripes and lettering with a horn, nav lights, some bollards and that's it, nothing over the top, I like the clean lines of her.

how much did you pay for it? if you dont mind me asking of course.

£60-including motor, EMC, servo and batteries. Which for the size of her at 34inch long I didn't think was too bad.

you got yourself a bargain theyre i reckon. If im not mistaken those decaperm motors on there own can fetch upwards and beyond 30 quid on ebay. New they retail at £99!!

Just seen one ebay, the same one I have and that is at £30! It is a good strong motor, well seems to be. I think she is a bargain for what I have got really, the fiberglass hull alone is around the £90 mark. Really happy, just adding a few stripes to the wheel house at the moment and changing the rear windows to my nice mottled blue ones. The wheel house is empty, I was thinking of adding figures and a floor, but may just leave it as is. Don't really want to clutter too much.

Just found a new Decaperm 6v 2.75 gear ratio, just like mine for £142! Chuffing hell, might sell the motor :-)
