This may be the first and last posting on this subject. We shall see how things progress.
Having made the stand, the next few jobs all seem to involve Stabilit-Express.........but have you SEEN the PRICE of that stuff????? I'm told it's the dog's doo-dahs for sticking wood to ABS and I always try to follow the kit-maker's recommendations, but really! Twenty three quid for 80gm? Is there a better i.e. cheaper alternative? Please forgive my apparent ignorance but I haven't glued wood-to-ABS in a kit before, and my last Graupner build was a 'Taxi' model aircraft in about 1978. Please no speculation - I need to know from someone who's actually found and used a better glue for the job.

Balsa cement or ABS/PVC cement, plumbers supplies.

I used superglue medium and thin viscosity throughout, except for the struts for the blade guard for which I used araldite rapid. After 4 years use I had to re-glue the 2 center struts at the guard. This time I used a hot glue gun.

Built two Parat tugs and on both used Araldite with good to fantastic results

Uhu plus acrylit
Looks like stabillit, smells like it and you mix it the same ( powder&adhesive).
About 8 quid for 30 grams.
Check out uhu wed site tells you all about it, but it does just about the same as stabbillit ex

One of the best that I used to use was something called p600-it was like no-nails but industrial strength. Stuck anything to anything, didn't react with other materials and once set it was harder than the stuff you bonded. Pity they stopped making it {:-{ Used it on loads of my models and dioramas, I made sure that they stayed glued.
At the moment I am using up my last tube.

+1 for uhu acrylit.
Yes it is expensive but used carefully it will last a while, you don't need much to get a good bond but it will fill gaps. It takes a while to get the mix ratio right but you don't need much powder to get it to set. You get about ten minutes working time and once set the parts are stuck for life. For gluing ABS there is nothing better.

the UHU plus is pretty much the same as Stabilit (allegedly they come from the same factory)

Yes, I too liked Devcon and easier to use.

My understanding is, construction adhesives are a tried solution for ABS to wood up here in Canada we have LePage PL9000, amazing strength for these joints. someone who goes to the same pond with his Parat used it and it's been holding for the past 5 years or so since his build, he also claims that it reduced the rattly sound that these tugs a famous for since the glue remains in that semi hard state giving a slight vibration dampening effect. It sells here for around $8 (5 pounds) for a silicone gun size tube, there must be an equivalent in the UK.
You can buy a tube and try it in a test joint and see if you like it.

I have tried the modelbond gel and while its very good I found it a little difficult to do a neat job with it (could well be down to my fists of ham and fingers of butter). I used it to fix the wooden bulkeads and motor mount blocks in my Fibreglass huntsman, Like I said it was not the neatest job but they are certainly not coming apart any time soon!

dont know if anyone has tryed this stuff wicks do a tube of ultimite grab about £8 best i have ever used around the house but not in a boat yet. Regards Howard.

Stabilit Express, UHU Acrylit, Devcon Plastic Welder I and II, Deluxe materials Super acrylic and Fusion, plus the starloc range of acrylic adhesives are all modified acrylic adhesives. I have not found a better glue than these to be honest, and they stick anything besides the really awkward waxy plastics like polyethylene, which you shouldn't be using for modelmaking anyway, as they don't take paint well either.
The tend to differ in consistency, just like you can get different cyanos etc.

Amen. Just about any standard epoxy will do fine, with all abs-abs, abs-wood/whatever -joints....as long as you remember to _roughen_ the surfaces properly. Grade 80 or 100 sandpaper is not overkill for this :)
I try to avoid using strong solvent-based glues (like UHU Allplast and such) in modelling - they tend to soften the plastic and make visible "bumps" on the other side of joint even after weeks or months. So I´d be very careful when trying any new types like these...

As Martin said - Evostick Sticks like s**t, it really does! use it very often for sticking motor mounts, deck and beam supports to abs and fibreglass, used it on Moonraker - wood to abs and stuck the decks down with it. Cheap as chips, good initial grab yet movable for positioning and not brittle when set. Sealed all the internal joints of my wavemaster with it, great stuff.
