Title: Masters golf
Post by: irishcarguy on April 17, 2013, 08:48:17 pm
We should be congratulating our Australian friends here on Adam Scott's great win at the Masters & also being the first Australian to do so. I am sure it helped him that he had Tigers old caddy on the bag, Steve won 4 Masters while caddying for Tiger, but I take nothing away from Scott, he deserved the win, Mick B.

I love watching the Masters. Beautiful, beautiful course and some superb golf, always! I saw Scott's long putt go in on the 18th and thought that was it (along with everyone else) until Cabrera fired in that iron shot almost to the pin. I then groaned as I had a really early start the next morning and there was no way of telling how long the play-off would last. If I'd started watching I'd have stayed watching. Late into school is not an option for a teacher!  :}

So I had to wait until the morning to catch the result. I was really pleased for Scott and for the Aussies, especially after Mark Webber's rotten luck in the Chinese GP (are Red Bull sabotaging him??)

A great tournament all round for Australia with 3 Aussies in the top 5 places. Wonderful to see Adam Scott break the Masters hoodoo for Australia, hopefully he will now go on and win more majors.

Peter.

I have friends who yawn loudly when I talk about model boats - each to their own - don't knock it!

Yep, watched the Masters - nice to see an Aussie win. Tiger should have disqualified himself, he might have regained some of the respect that a lot of people lost after his "goings on"....

I suppose now that our Aussie friends have robustly celebrated their man`s win, they will now be complaining about feeling a bit

close to the ball after I have hit it.

I asked the local professional "why can't I hit the ball straight?"
He said "you've got a piece of cr** on the end of your club."
I started wiping the club face and he said "no, the other end!"

There is nothing wrong with my game, I get to hit (sometimes)the ball a lot more often than my playing partners all the time. However keeping the score is hard with such big numbers.Mick B.

I love to watch golf. The masters course is stunningly beautiful. The skills of the players sometimes unbelievable. As to me actually playing, that's a different story. I have played a few times in my life but it's never been a pleasurable experience but has been memorable. I was dragged out to a minicipal course near Adelaide to play with the Old Man and the Chief Steward and his missus. Teeing off on the the first hole I mimicked the actions of the others (I'm good at that), sliced the ball horribly and the ball sizzled off across the nearby road and hit a static real jet aircraft, I think it was a Jet Provost that some strange person kept on his front lawn!  My first birdie. The last time I played was in Townsville. If they'd put the cups on ants nests, near brown snakes, big spiders webs and next to nesting blubbas? nests I would probably have scored a course record. In the UK it's boring, in Oz it's downright lethal!!

Hullo Jerry.........your golfing proses ...is probably similar to mine  :(( , however you do note  >>:-( a phrase which brings the questions
1. How many Officers have the title of Chief on board?..............
2. If you were silly enough to venture out on to a Townsville green [brown]........ I have no sympathy........Derek

Derek,
1) Chief officer, the Mate, Harry Tate.
Chief Engineer, don't call me chief, I'm not a red Indian.
Chief Steward, the good shepherd or bring 'em back alive Harry.
Chief cook, don't mess with this guy.
2) didn't I mention I'd lost the will to live before I got anywhere near the greens. The course near Douglas was very lush and well looked after and the 19th hole was excellent and had a good restaurant.
Can't fault any of the sporting facilities seen around Oz. that's why you're al so good. Observed children coming out of school straight to swimming pool to benefit from plentiful and I assume good quality coaching/encouragement. Occasionally I get the urge to get physical but I have a lie down until it passes off!
Jerry.

I have only ever played one round of 9 hole.............it was a grudge match between Campbell and Canberra High school teachers.....been going for years and the aggregate scores of all players added together won.

Sadly I was never asked to play again.........my score for the 9 holes was 96 {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
