Right her goes.
I brought a second hand Mobile marine models lady jan hull from mayhem last year unused as i licked the
riveted looking hull and it was a good size.
Since i brought it it has sat on a shelf in the garage collecting dust. :((
so while having a tidy a few weeks back i decided i would do somthing with it.
Sadly i didnt realy like the look of the lady jan super structure so i started having a google about and found an image of proceed. not to shore of its details but love the rusty derelict look.
So i set about modifying the hull firstly fitting the cross bars to suport the deck then made a balsawood deck which i have covered with a thin layer of ply.
I then made the front higher which i have made it tilt inwords as i wish to use this boat in tug tow's and thought it might be safer.
The super structure i sat and designed on auto cad and then im affraid i cheated i poped into the garage fired up the laser machine and hey presto I have a little kit to build. the other pictures show the stage it is at now. it is all made from 1.5mm ply and is now all primerd.

The basics are now there id like to get i water worthy very soon and then i can potter with the superstructure at my lesure. i am debaiting about fitting bow thruster before i start painting.

Bow thruster would this been powerfull enough for a tug of this size its around 100cm long X 28cm wide.

Just the job. That's a 400 type motor. Watch the voltage as they are only 7.2 volt and your boat might be 12 volt.
This might involve 2 batteries. %)

Great Ill order that now then.
Im happy to have a secondry battery as yes i have fitted a MMM T12 which ill be running on 12v but i was wondering could i fit a copasitor to drop the voltage to it? from the main batterys. which im looking at 2 x 12v 7ahs

Get yourself a voltage regulator , they are cheap on fle-bay & you can set it to the correct voltage for the bow thruster & still use a 12volt battery. Mick B.

All ..... Most Bow thrusters are overly noisy! :o

Thanks for that I thought there was something to do that but could not remember the name of it.
I rang a few model shop and couldnot get a graupner bow thruster as they are being taken over theres no stock coming in so speaking to cornwall model boats i have ordered a Raboesch one which he said was the equivelant. hopefully be here midweek.

Thank you guys for nice feedback this is my first tug boat build as im normaly making narrowboat models but it is nice to make something diffrent.
I am hoping ill get to mayhem weekend to try it out But its are wedding anniversary that week a she who must be obayed keeps talking about going away for the weekend .
Maybe ill see if she fancys camping at mayhem {-) its worth a try i suppose.

Yes they can be noisy so ill just have to make the sound unit louder {-)

I didnt get much time to play about today but have knocked up a chimney stack for it.
I cut the formers from 3mm ply and covered it in thin vaneer. Its so light weight but very strong still :}

I have done a bit more designing and cutting today towards the boat.
I needed some 40mm uprights for the railings around the top deck shown in picture 1.
I then drew up a pair of step ladders to suit the space. picture 2 and 3

I no but once you start using one theres no going back {-) .
Its great when you can fit the odd little bit onto the offcuts from jobs gets them used save them
clogging up the workshops

I would love to Derek, they really open up a whole new world of modelmaking but it's hard to talk about them here without causing arguments or being accused of trying to sell stuff, maybe a "moderator approved" section somewhere?

Gents...please see the comment from mermod below.......could you please consider & sanction a new thread on Laser Cutting.......& if you feel it is becoming too commercialised or crossed sales boundaries then it be reviewed as such :D
I for one would be very interested in understanding more of the home use based product or processes & who not better to tell the story than Mayhem members with real home application experience??????

I for one would like to see such a thread, the pros's and con's of purchasing , the best one to look at , where to buy, safety issues, & any other relevant things to watch out for.However I don't want a sales pitch . I thrust Mermod no to do that & he will give us the best of his experience with these machines, Mick B.

I am also happy to chat about my machine. Me and mermod both have diffrent machines using diffrent software so i could be interesting comparison of capabilities and set up.
I wont be trying any sales pitches just facts and question answering
Wether its regarding drawings compatabilitys materials usage with examples of what can be done.
