Title: Your input needed on motor/battery/esc/prop combination
Post by: davejay on May 04, 2013, 08:35:55 pm
Hi Guys,

Embarking on a build of a dutch motor coaster based on the 'Models By Design'/metcalf hull of the Pateke, purchased a MFA Torpedo with 6-1 ratio gearbox, 12v 7ah SLA battery, Mtroniks 15amp esc........haven't got a prop yet but looking at a 40mm 3 blade nylon jobby.................this combination was recommended by Martin at Westborne, great chap with great advice and a universe of experience, so not doubting his knowledge but would just like to have some input and views from my fellow boat modellers out there!!!

All the best, Dave

For Racundra I'm using a 12V Bhuler motor, 12V 7Ah SLA and a 15A Mtroniks ESC, but I'm spinning a brass 50mm 4-blade prop.

I'm guessing that a geared-down Torpedo could swing a bigger prop than 40mm?

Probably the best bet would be (hull size allowing) to try a range of cheapo plastic props before buying a brass one.

Thanks for the reply Andy, I guess the set up I have will be ok then, I'm definately going to try different plastic props before going down the brass route, experimenting is one of the most enjoyable parts of this hobby!!
Many thanks, Dave
