For my Winter project I am thinking of completely updating the electrics on a boat I am in the process of buying. It looks like a 1:16 scale model of an ELCO 80' PT boat (so its 5' long). The electrical system is very ancient. My plan would be to fit 3x Graupner 700BB turbo 12v motors. I am trying to put together a "shopping list" of all the kit I would need to do the job. I understand the theory of what is required but have never undertaken anything on this scale. So as most of you guys have been there and got the "T" shirt I wondered if you could give me some pointers of what to consider in the way of ESCs or anything else I might need to connect from batteries to motor.
I had not considered "Tank" steering but would be open to suggestions. Any help would be appreciated

3 x 700 BB Turbos will pull very high amps.
You will also need a high capacity/discharge capability and don't forget the wiring as this has to carry the current too.

Action Electronics produced some excellent diagrams, these might still be available from Component Shop who took over the business. Give it a try. Pete

As Shipmate stated 3 700 = very high amperage.....on the other hand 3x 900 series motors = lot less amos and they are available off Steve Model Boat bits.If I was using this set up I would be using 55mm 2 bladed plastic props at 24v each motor and running the motors water cooled and using ACTion electronics.
The other route you could go is to use 800Kva Brushless motors and corresponding speed contolers aain on 24v
