Title: 3mm Flexi drive with square end??
Post by: Lancejsy on May 24, 2013, 10:27:02 pm
Hello all. Can anyone help me find a 3mm square ended flexi drive for my HK podracer as they don't seem to stock them.
I was also looking for the Teflon tubing to go with it. It is a great little boat and I made the mistake of setting the motor at a
slightly differant angle after moved when I hit a buoy for the second time. Like I said, great boat but the HK stock is a little slow.
Many thanks for your time.

Is it a true 3mm or the 1/8" (3.2)?

Hello w3bby, after a recheck it is 3.2mm bud.
We don't have any water big enough to run boats much faster on Jersey so it would be great to get it back on the water.
Any help greatly received.
Cheers

If you know someone with a milling machine its dead easy to make a compression tool to form the square. You can use any cable that is the right diameter.

A good block of steel, say, 25x50x50 long, set at 45 deg to the tool, cut a 'v' slot 3mm deep, then cut the block in half to give two blocks with a 'v' slot.

I suggest cut 3mm slot, as I have found that the shaft coil springs back a little after compression.

You will need to compress using a decent car hydraulic jack to get the tool to 'close' fully. If you use a vice there is a risk of breaking the vice jaws under the load you will need.

Model Marine (http://www.modelmarinesupplies.co.uk/products.php?cat=47) should be able to help you out or Prestwich (http://www.prestwich.ndirect.co.uk/fastelectrics.htm). Probably others as well but that's two I have in my bookmarks.

Teflon tube is not really needed with a good lube in the tube, some people run with it others don't.
