No its only 24" long, I think the viper is 30" and it has "Tiger Racer 74" on the hull but same shape. Ian.

I must addmit that Alan was right, now that I have the boat it is the mini viper s but for some reason it is badged as a Tiger Racer 74, hobby engine all the same as the viper. Now for my next question, it has a 9.6v 800mah battery and the run time is given as up to 6 mins !!!!! is there anyway I can increase this by fitting a bigger battery like a 9.6v 2500mah ? would this give me 18 mins or would I be better trying to squeeze in a "C CELL " pack ? Thanks in advance. Ian.

Does the boat have its own speed controller or does everything run from a circuit board. I was wondering if you could could seperate the battery power supply to radio gear and motor. You can get a 4600mah pencell pack although it would be self assembly.
Looking at the c cell pack option, would have to consider if the boat could take the weight and would it affect the water line position much.

Hi Frank, It does have a seperate speed controller and a reciever, though the quality of these are dubious and I may change them. Would the the 4600mah give me about 30 mins run time ? Ian.

yes on paper, but runing time well.. that depends if you are going to be screaming round the pond all the time.

Doubt those pen cells could handle the discharge rate required by an electric motor in a boat. As you want light weight and big mah then LiFePo or LiPo would be my suggestion.

I know nothing about these batteries at all, can they be used with a brushed motor ?

As long as the motor etc can handle the voltage then lipos are no different to any other, Altho the do need to be handled slightly different
You could get away with a 2 (7.4V) or possibly a 3cell (11.1v) lipo at around 2-3000 mah, depending on the current battery configuration (the shape and size of the 9.6v pack)

You have the 'toy' version with the 380 motor.
It doesn't say what material the hull is made of, if it's a heavy plastic, the boat won't be able to carry bigger batteries for longer runtime and switching to similar sized Lipo (which have a higher capacity while the size and weight remain roughly the same) is an option.
The video in the link shows a nice turn of speed, of which you don't see a lot because of the ADHD way it's driven...

This hull looks rather light and is rather quick, it does need tweaking (less rudderthrow) and a turnfin to avoid 180° spins when trying to turn sharply.
If your hull is made of the same lightweight material, getting more runtime won't be much of a problem, as long as the batteries fit through the narrow hatch.
