was all going fine , then it just stopped ( battery on both TX and main batterty are both fully charged )
HI
the maiden voyage of my TUG was cut short after every stopped working ( had a BBQ organized and everything )
viper 25
and flysky RX and TX FSGT3B
and new 770 sku motor
the motor runs fine if you just go straight from the 12v batt bypassing the ESC ( its fully charged 13.2V )
with THE POWER to the ESC the ESC lights up solid red led
the RX lights up ,flashing red led but wont stop flashing ?
the servo tries to center itself but won't go to center , just moves a bit from where ever you move it to ( very erratic )
is there some way i can check if its the TX / RX /or ESC
thanks Bob
-
The ESC is not getting a signal from yhe Rx.
The Rx does not respond to the TX.
As a first try I would rebind the TX and RX.

it appears i have a binding problem tryed several times no joy
how vido

The process isn't fully/properly explained in the manual. Try the following.Fit bind lead to Rx.Power Rx, the LED will flash.Hold bind button on Tx and turn on.LED stops flashing.Release bind button on Tx and turn off.Turn off Rx and remove bind lead. The bind process is now complete.Plug servo into Rx.Turn on Tx.Turn on Rx.Test

i have no light AT ALL now on RX unit ?
after trying to bind it
-
It looks like it could be a dud receiver..... seems to be a lot of duds floating around
If you google FS-GT3b Binding problem you will see many forum postings from people with the same issue as you :(
-
OK thanks ill have a look
thanks for help

Open the back of the receiver and check that the antenna wire is soldered to the board still. They can break easily. For the power try wiggling the socket. If neither of these and the receiver doesnt work on the bench its bin fodder.
At the start of the thread you said all was going fine, so i can only presume it was allready bined? still sounds like broken connection to me.
-
all was going fine and has been for months on my TC model
but i swapped it into my AMSTERDAM model yesterday and it was working well till this arvo and it just died
ill see if i can get a couple of new ones from somewhere
-
look on ebay. they cost about 5 quid
-
yer just ordered 2 for $14
must be a lot of people needing new ones ???
-
ok i got my new RX / TX
now i can get rudder but no motor ?
the red / green lights go on and off as per normal on the viper 25 ( when you activate the throttle TX ) forward and reverse but no power comes out the white and blue motor leads i have pierced them right down where the emerge from the case with point of my multi meter 0 v
the motor runs fine straight from the battery
i even tried a new TX as i bought a complete kit TX /RX
the viper seams to get hot even when connected to battery ONLY and turned on ( not sure how hot it is supposed to get though )
any ideas or is the viper fried ?
-
If its getting hot with nothing connected to it but the battery then youve got a short in it somewhere and its fried. I think mtroniks do a repair warranty or something.
-
i have a Q about the capacitors on the back of some motors , are they only there just to reduce noise to TX or for some other purpose ,?
i have them on the MFA motor but not on the SKU 770 that is the motor the viper was on when it blew
thanks Bob
-
yes are just to rteduce noise to the tx/rx. Im on 2.4ghz so i dont bother with them at all.
-
there was probably nothing wroing with old radio gear. Did you test the receiver with 4aa batteries?
-
no mate i dident ?
i don't have a 4.8 batt pack can i by or make one using old rx servo type plug and some batt ?
what color wires should if try this as there are 3 coming out of the old rx
-
Usual polarity applies i.e. Red/Orange is positive and Black/Brown is negative. Ignore the White/Other wire; it does nothing in this situation.
Don't forget to disable the BEC inside the speed controller. See "Disabling BEC ESCs" here http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php (http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php) and leave the little switch on the ESC in the ON position.

are we talking about using the ESC or the old RX
mtronik are saying they will fix it if i pay to ship it back to

you can test the old receiver using 4 aa batteries. Youl be using the same receiver as me. Yes you can use an old servo plug, just connect the 4 aa batteries to to red and black on the plug. like inertia said leave the white its a signal wire. You can plug your home made battery pack into any of the 4 sockets on your receiver. When your powered up, rebind the tx and rx as normal. Id suggest you leave the esc to one side at first and using a servo check channel 1 for steering, then plug the servo into the channel 2 socket on your receiver and it should move when you pull the trigger backwards and forwards. If the servo moves on both channel sockets then we can say that the receiver is working.
Ive hads these reciever submerged in water and still working fine many times, despite being cheap they are actually pretty tough.

Suppressors are not just for AM and FM - noise is not limited to going through the airwaves, it can also travel up wires and into electronics. The back EMF spikes coming off a motor carry a lot of power, and it wants to go somewhere. First port of call is the back end of the ESC.
-
It is also good pond manners to suppress your motor
Even if you have 2.4gigs others may not and a noisy
motor (RFI noisy) can affect other boats close to you

I think not. MTroniks units are potted in epoxy and therefore unrepairable i.e. they won't fix it; they'll simply replace it. This makes it difficult to understand their insistence that you return it halfway around the world - unless that's the only proof of purchase/ownership they will accept.
Having said all of that it's still less cost to you to post it back for replacement than to buy a new one in Oz at A$85!

I suppose it is good manners to suppress but when it comes to me personally i sail on a 1 square mile lake on my own. Bit boring sailing on your own in such a big lake. I didnt realise that the benefits of caps also helped with other things other than radio interference but ive never noticed a problem not using them.

yes i was wondering how they would strip it and repair it
yes it going to cost me $8 to send it in padded envelope ,so way cheaper then a new one ,and another 24 months warranty to

Repairing the unit might well not be viable, but returning it is a one-shot proof of ownership. It can't be claimed on twice.
Even potted, they might have a way in so that they could have a look and find out what failed. It might be junk after the inspection, but if you know what broke you can take steps to get round it for the future. All part of on-going quality control. If it happens like that.
-
yer its a replacement they send
i assume its safe to solder onto AA rechargeable batteries + / - terminals to make a 4.8 v test pack ?
what sort of charger would you get to recharge them with the servo plug attached ?
-
if your going to buy a charger you might aswell buy a receiver battery pack and just use cheapo aa batteries.
like this for example:

well i haven't heard a word about my viper 25 since i sent it
i have doped 2x emails to them to ask if they received it, no replay ??
-
Even from within the UK it takes about 10 days for a replacement to arrive.
The replacement just arrives, no emails to say it's arrived at their offices, or has been shipped back and it comes back without any paperwork at all.
But they do always replace faulty items without querying what happened.
-
ok thanks for that ,ill keep my fingers crossed
cheers BOB
-
OK SO HERE IS GOOD NEWS
my REPLACEMENT mtroniks viper 25 arrived to day in the mail
free of charge
cheers Bob
-
well here is turn up for the books
connected up the new ESC viper 25 and the new RX ,did the bind solid red light , ( lights flash on the esc , hit the setup button in under 2 sec , light goes green hit the forward trigger NOTHING no steering either ?
so i changed to another new esc viper 20 plug and play still nothing ??
but when i turn OFF the TX the motor runs flat out in forward ( still no steering )
what going on ?????
-
LOL well its all good now
the problem was i had mucked round with the TX that much trying to find the original problem ( viper 25 )
that the DR WAS set 0 % so no steering , and the runaway was due to the FAIL SAFE on the new RX not being set to neutral
-
Glad you got it sorted!
-
Once you know the answer, it is always so obvious.
I do like it when it all comes together.
