Title: Petrol Engines
Post by: richi1980 on June 04, 2013, 05:18:31 pm
Hi All I am have been looking at a few engines for my apache 50. I want a petrol engine.
I  have been looking at a rcmk k30  and a zen g290pum and i have also come across a  modified ZENOAH 7.
From what i can see the RCMK K30 is alot higher HP out the boxs with no mods than the zenoah engine. And is cheeper than the Zenoah engines. Have anyone got any advice with regards the engines quality etc and just general opinions

Cheers

 Hi Richi
I noticed your topic had no replies surprisingly so here is my contribution:
Personally I and my twin brother between us have been running about 6 Zenoah engines over the last 3 years, varying from the stock 260PUM to the tuned Zen7 from Prestwich Model Centre to the larger capacity tuned Zenoah purchased from Mill Pond Models. One thing each of these engines has in common is that after lots of running time they have never suffered a breakage. They have for us proved to be exceptionally reliable and easy to start. That in casual or race conditions counts for a great deal in my opinion. The tuned versions (both from Prestwich Model Centre and Millpond Models) deliver very impressive performances.
I cannot comment upon the RCMK engines having never owned one. Their specifications do look impressive.
It might be worth having a look at individual race results to see which engines seem to feature in the top places in national races. Perhaps take a look at the BMPRS website and the results for this year’s racing so far. Engines from Zenoah and Gizmo  seem to appear often in the top places.....http://bmprs.co.uk/results.html
I hope my contribution gives you some food for thought.
Cheers
Craig

Do you want a race engine or do you just want a "gasser"?
If the latter, then CrrcPro" engines can fill that void for you. Look on the web and you should find the top price delivered is £125
It would appear that that are Zen copies but at half the price. Look further in this forum for threads on CrrcPro.

The rcmk engines are probably the best stock motors available today, lots of power and the build quality especially the crank case is superb.Best place to find information on them is on the US forums because they have been racing them there for a few years, theyre pretty new here.Only negative I have heard with them is possibly the starter which possibly isn't as robust as the Zenoah ones but they are interchangeable. That said been a dealer for RCMK and having sold a few I haven't had any complaints about them ,people running them love them. Also for your 50" boat the rcmk 254 evo might be a good option,26 cc around 5.4 hp.

Hi

Yes to confirm i run three zen engines, a 260pum, a 290pum and a 31cc mill pond tuned zen which is very quick. The zen 7 by pmc which my brother runs is also very quick.

All three have proved easy starting, relaible running and powerful with no breakages. I have been running one of the engines for three seasons on original bearings. The walbro carbs are bomb proof as usual, but go for the big bore carbs with no choke butterfly for extra power. Also a pmc pipe is a must which ever engine you pick for maximum power.

The new zens have the ez starter which is a lot easier on the knuckles and makes the pull start a lot easier to use without stressing the starter cord which can be prone to break on some engines. I do upgrade my pull starts by replacing the stock cord with dynema cord (which is stronger than steel and unbreakable) as there is nothing worse than breaking a pull start at the lake before you even get the boat running.

Cant fault the zens. I also run a stock sikk 26cc which has proved very reliable and powerful, plus quiet and high reving. ( it is a lot harder to start though due to compression)!

Cant commemt on the rcmk engine a have never owned one but i am told they are good.

Best regards
