Title: Smit Nederland
Post by: Matstrooper on June 04, 2013, 10:00:15 pm
Hi all im new to this forum and to boats to as have previously ran RC cars. I have just purchased a Smit Nederland and would like some advice on what components to use please.

1. Is it best to go 6 volt or 12 volt and what are the benefits of the preferred voltage.
2. I want to run several LED'S is it best to make my own system or buy pre wired units.
3. Also a smoke unit, something that will look right for a diesel tug.
4. Also a sound unit which make etc.
5. Motors Esc'S etc to run both motors independently.

I have read a lot of previous posts but they are old posts so would like to know whats best at the moment for what i want, budget wise looking mainly middle of the road as i dont want to buy things twice.

Any opinions would be great. Mat.

Hi Matt!

Welcome to the model boat nut house Mayhem!

A few ideas:

1. Great motor choices and lower current consumption
2. Make you own, it will be bespoke and what you actually want!
3. Most smoke units are white only. You can purchase smoke pellets but are limited in many ways.
4. Several, ACTion, ModelSounds, rc tank units. Try before you buy!
5. Graupner motors are among the most popular, ("medical" equipment motors are probably the
best!) Brushless are becoming popular these days.

I have used 2x Decaperm 5 pol 2.75:1 geared with a 6v lead acid battery for the last 30 years and is as good as any set ups I have come across,
I would surjest you use Action's P94 Duel esc/mixer Multi Controller this can be used in any future Model you may buy.
But at the end of the day its what works for you
