Title: Propellors
Post by: Peterb3333 on June 13, 2013, 09:43:33 pm
Hi all,

Firstly hello as this is my first post

Have a boat with no propellors and need to get some either made or find some that fit,

Not sure if anyone can point me in the right direction, albeit I know very little of model boats,

It's a bait boat and can't find anyone who supplies replacement parts

Kind regards

You will need to measure the diameter of the shafts first to determine the correct thread.

Thanks Bob, will verneay it and find out although it looks very thin with a thread on it

Curious as if say it has an m4 thread what stops it unscrewing itself when in reverse?

It should have a locknut which tightens on to the prop boss or even just threadlock.

Is this an angling technics bait boat sounds like one......if so just google the angling technics web site get the telephone number they will sell you one no probs at all.

I have repaired a few and all you do is to threadlock it on

Not usually but you can pick up an M4 nut easily, opt for brass whenever possible!

Hi

Right measured the threaded shaft and its an m3 fit and the hole the propellor goes inside is just under 50mm - all seems a bit under powered for size of boat,

Anyway anyone know where I can source propellors to fit? As can only find m4 at the moment

Cheers

Something cheap but effective
https://www.rcspares.uk.com/rc/product/diecast-model-kits-wooden-models-boat-fittings-billing-boats/propellor-40mm-m3-right (https://www.rcspares.uk.com/rc/product/diecast-model-kits-wooden-models-boat-fittings-billing-boats/propellor-40mm-m3-right)

Slightly more expensive but well worth the money (I use these on most of my boats)http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/m3-raboesch.html (http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/m3-raboesch.html)

or something bespoke
http://www.prop-shop.co.uk/index.php?id=37&section=services&sub_section=products&product_type=37 (http://www.prop-shop.co.uk/index.php?id=37&section=services&sub_section=products&product_type=37)
Drop them an email stating what you need and they will be happy to recommend something suitable or make you your own custom prop

Any chance you could give us more info on the boat, even some pics if possible it will make it much easier for us to advise on the correct prop for the job

Ah yes Amerang is/was the UK importer for Billing boats.
I just realised I may well have the BB prop in my bits box :) Stepson has a BB white star and we upgraded it to a brass prop.  It's been used but isnt damaged

its about a Euro so dont worry about it, just throw a few sheckels in the RNLI box next time you see one

PM me your address and I'll send it anyway..... always handy to have a spare :)

On a slight tangent I also am looking at changing the gearing cogs (if that makes sense) as currently they are plastic and a bit noisy when running, is this possible?

Might help If I posta pic

Hi again,

Update 2 got Sant a right hand prop from a kind member which fits perfectly and screws on clockwise however on the other m3 thread this appears to thread anti clockwise? Does anyone know if when I find a left prop it would Come with this thread reverse,

Hope this makes sense?

Hi all,

Update 3, firstly a huge Thankyou to phil from on here who has been really kind and done some work on the boat allowing me now to fit m4 props which worked perfectly,

Now have another issue and was going to give up but have decided not to so here goes.

On the boat there are two 540 motors which appear to have the speed controllers soldered on, one of the motors has blown the pcb but motor itself is fine, I think these are custom jobs so was wondering if this could be removed and standard type speed controller fitted?

Will attach a pic shortly

Regards
Peter
