Think this is a type of axe bow variant , seen it on a few coasters and cargo ships as well , not sure which yard builds them though

The ship has been nominated 'SHIP OF THE YEAR 2013'. 3441 gross tonnage, 69.8 meters in length and a width of 15.6 meters. I think she is just a ship of her time, she has a modern beauty.

This type of bow is the creation of STX Norway.
I think they introduced it as a kind of contending design against Ulstein's X-Bow, and started fitting a few offshore supply vesels with it like the STRIL ORION.

Out of curiosity and because I was asked for it by a model boater in a German forum I tried to reconstruct the hull lines of the STRIL ORION and posted the result in this thread (http://www.rc-modellbau-schiffe.de/wbb2/thread.php?postid=302201#post302201).

Very soon afterwards I discovered STX's patent for their bow on the Internet which includes a few drawings of sections and buttocks of the bow.
So I compared them with my free interpretation and found a not too bad match.
I also did some minor refairing and corrections to come even closer.

If you scroll down from my above posting in the thread you will find the link to the patent.

But I do have to agree with most of you.
I don't find this bow form particularly beautiful or elegant either.
But it seems to have a few advantages especially in maintaining a higher speed or running more efficiently in a diagonally crossing seaway.

Saying that though abour side winders, Rod.............it's a better shape than the one you received from down south yesterday..................perhaps if you turned your new hull upside down you could make that Axe bow out of it,  {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
