Title: Anyone recognise this beauty?
Post by: marinemole on June 29, 2013, 02:35:00 pm
Can anyone ID this beautiful looking ship photographed off Massa Lubrense last week? Apolgies for the quality but shot on 50x optical with some haze offshore.

That's 'Nero' - 90m Classic Yacht retro/replica, built in China. It's 'For Sale' if you're interested...

Thanks Andy. That was quick...... 21 minutes. :-))  Mayhem comes up trumps yet again.

I had 5 numbers on the lottery last year. I reckon the 920 quid I won might, just might, buy me a teaspoon from the galley.

I'd buy it for Mayhem but I'd never get it on the pond at Wicksteed.

it always reminds me of those cheep tat models you see in seaside trincket and tat shops on Blackpool and other seaside towns...........,made in mass form by sweatshops in china and baring absolutely no real resemblance to the real ships that they were taken from.......because the manufacturers have probably never seen the real thing. It always looks to me as though it was built from photographs.

it's absolutely horrible as a ship IMHO........with awful proportions..........Am just waiting for the Chinese replica of the Titanic for the Ozzie chap to appear.

Give me the Dannebrog or  Mr Dyson's yacht anyday.

You fussy so-and-so! If they're being given away, I'd be happy with any of them...  O0

Strange, that she does look so much nicer in that second picture - perhaps she was designed to be looked up to!

Why so few models of them?
Yes i know Deans have 2 Steam yachts but very few luxury modern ones apart from Moonraker.

Just goes to show that having lots of money can't buy you good taste.
The hull by itself is fine. The superstructure (minus the stupid funnel) is fine.
The 2 combined is pretty hideous. Just my opinion. BY.

Looks like it started life as a schooner, then got converted to a ferry boat
and finally ended up as a tugboat. {-) {-)

Seem to have stirred up an aesthetic controversy here. %)

Looked fine to me sailing offshore.

Then again I'm building a model of the IJN Fuso which, although interesting, is probably not the last word in battlewagon good looks. {-)

'Nero' was apparently inspired by J.P. Morgan's 'Corsair' luxury-yacht's from the late 1800's-early 1900's

The first 'Corsair' was bought by the U.S. Govt and became U.S.S. 'Gloucester'.
The second 'Corsair' became U.S.S. 'Corsair' in WW1 and served as U.S.S. 'Oceanographer' during WW2.
I Can't find anything on 'Corsair III', but it seems like 'Corsair IV' started life as a luxury yacht, ut for some reason was later converted into a cruise ship - Ouch! - A bit like buying a Rolls-Royce and using it to deliver Pizza!

It isn't really an aesthetic controversy - It just looks like it!

Maybe it's because no-one can agree what is appealing!  {-)

Here's a full-size U.S.S. 'Gloucester' (formerly 'Corsair I') and some 'Corsair' models...
