Title: Which RG65?
Post by: quixoticgeek on July 14, 2013, 06:59:08 am

I am thinking of having a go at building myself a small sailing boat. RG65 boats look interesting, specifically, the JIF65 and the Puma.

I made a Balsa RC boat as a kid from plans I got from a book, and I am reasonably happy working with wood etc...

I'm not really looking at this as a boat to race, but as something fun to sail on the pond at the local park on a sunny afternoon.

With this in mind, can anyone provide any thoughts on which RG65 design to consider as a relative newby?

Thanks

Julia

What about the Joysway RTR Dragonforce 65 with 2.4 radio?

Saw one of these sailing at our clubs lake the other week and it looked impressive. Building your own wooden model is ok , but with all the additional hidden costs factored in there isn't much difference in cost today between an RTR vs. scratch/kit build.

There is quite a bit of interest on these boats and some good dialog you may be interested in reviewing - here are several links to those discussions. Hope you find them of value. I am interested in this boat as well. I just got an CR914 which is another very popular boat. Good luck.

Google Racing Sparrow RG 65.
Balsa plank on frame hull.
Free plans on Racing Sparrow Website.
Sails really well.
£5 of balsa and £5 of resin builds the hull
and probably £50 for sails and electronics.
Or make it easy and buy the aforementioned Joys way.

just finished a racing Sparrow RG65. Easy & cheap to build, although the plans leave a little to work out for yourself. There is a web site for racing sparrow
