Guys,
I am building a Dutch Courage and have fitted twin MFA Tornado's geared 500 motors and intend to use a 12v lead/acid battery as power source.. Could I use mtronics sport 20 speed controllers for these motors.

A better option in my humble opinion would be an ACTion P94 which will control both motors and acts as a mixer as well. You get 3 for the price of one & quality built as well. Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay lots of help here. The P94 is available from The Component Shop as they are the new owners of ACTion, good people to deal with. Mick B

Could I use mtronics sport 20 speed controllers for these motors.
I have Mtroniks Vipers in all my boats, very reliable and waterproof :-))

In there is says very clearly that it is designed for cars, it has a brake facility, and it is for up to 8 cells. The very last thing you need on a boat ESC is a brake facility. If you intend to run on 12 volts, do the sums and remember that 8 cells of NiMH is considerably less than 12 volts. There are plenty of better ESCs around that do handle the required voltage, including some in mtroniks' range.

As stated above these ESC are designed to run on 9.6v Max
NOT 12v Lead acid, when charged could give up to 14v initially
They will not take that voltage.

Hi, I had three marine 20 in my Dutch courage and its not a bit of bother
Action stuff in my aziz and micro gyro 40s in my ayton cross.

I have a pair of Mtroniks 15's in my tug, with 'tank steering'. They are marine ESC's, designed for boats, and waterproof. They are rated to 12v, so happy on lead acid, and when I phoned them (knowing that a newly charged lead acid can be 13 - 14v), they said they would be fine (and so it's proved to be)
Very small, and easily set up, so no reason not to use in a boat

as stated above which I think might have been missed
Mtronics SPORT 20 speed controllers are not Marine20 speed controllers
the sport is designed for cars with brake and reverse up to 8 cells max.
The Viper Marine can be run on 12v. But the Viper RV11 is 9.6v max 8 cells.
