Just trying to sew the panels together after using double sided tape to hold the panels in the position but the glue
is clogging up the needle couldn't sew the panel.
This is my first go a making a set of sails, can any one advise me on solving the problem?

Do you use machine for sewing? If yes, drop the thread for sewing for the night to the thin silicone lubricant. The thread has to soak with the lubricant and during sewing it will lubricate needle.

I have used double sided tape successfully on both mylar and ripstop. You need the right tape though, it should be thin but very sticky. Take care not to stretch it while applying it.
I found it difficult (well my wife did...) to sew ripstop because it is very slippery and tends to pucker if you have the thread tension too tight on the sewing machine..

Just a thought, could you use the iron on stuff that used for hems?

Only today my wife was making some sails (from ripstop) for our Focus yachts. The seams were taped with double sided sticky tape and zig zag stitched. The sticky needle problem was overcome by coating the seam with talcum powder before stitching. This really helped prevent the needle clogging up which was cleaned with a wipe of acetone (nail varnish remover) after each seam - the talcum then dusted off leaving no trace on the sail after.

Yes thanks that made a sense as I finnished the seams to day and I used a cleaner, the talc is a good idea and will follow that up.
Taking them to the club inthe morning.
