Title: HALVORSENS AUSTRALIAN POLICE/RAF BOAT 1946. NEW PROJECT.
Post by: eddiesolo on July 29, 2013, 12:54:25 am
I have put this in military as the original of this boat was built for the Australian forces in 1946 by Halvorsens, although my boat is going to be a 'civilian' version.

She is 38inch long and 11 inch wide at a scale of 1/12. Twin motors (brushed), twin props and twin rudders. As you see her now she is still in dry-dock. I have just started to fit the edging of the windows in thin wood strips and have added slightly thicker lengths to the seat at the rear. She needs sanding down, deck lines adding and yacht varnish added to the deck and wheelhouse. The Hull needs sanding back and then will be prepped and sprayed in a cream colour.  There are brass window and portholes to add after they holes have been filed down. The actual model was built by Andy ay K.M.B.C, but all detailing will be done by me.

Here are some pictures of her: B&W shows what she would have looked liked as a police launch.

Hi Vic, yeah, plenty big, we have two more of the same boat, one with open wheelhouse and the other closed like this one. One is a AAF and a police launch, so went something different with a civilian version.

It has two brushed 450 rated at 7.2 volts, stainless steel shafts and two 35mm M4 racing propellers. Two 25amp ESC will be fitted with a 25 amp in-line fuse fitted to both motors. We did a test and the motors drew 2 amps dry turning and shot up to 19 amps in the water...so one the cuff really, don't know the stall amperage. But, I will running it on 6v, and may change the propellers for three bladed with less pitch. I am not bothered about speed it is all about cruising with mine...hopefully.

Eddie.......not sure if your were aware .....but thought you may find the following interesting.......
A google search on Halvorsens WWII work boats will produce similar articles & WEB sites

@ 1: 12 scale, those 35 mm diameter [racing] props (35 x 12 dived by 12 = 35" diameter) may be a little out of wack & contributing to the  >>:-( >>:-(  19 amp draw.....
Interestingly....in the specification for the 40' boat, the propeller is listed as 31" diameter.........Derek

Thanks Derek for the info, I think you're right so may get 3 bladed 25mm instead, these, as you say may knock down the amperage.

     Regards   Ian.

I have sunken wreck models, intentional. The trawler that sank, unintentional. This boat, that will stay afloat and zoom around the lake looking fab and groovy, have faith Ian.

PS, Ian, please say a prayer to the sea-god to protect my boat. I need all the help I can get.
