I live on the the Gold Coast of Queensland,Australia.Seems like not many model boat builders,or model shops around here. Can anyone assist me with names or locations  which may assist me with this very fascinating hobby.I have just completed Smit Nederland scratch built off a Metcalf plan Just over 1xmeter long.and want to build a similar vessel but with electric motors ,which sadly I have not  a clue about.Regards and best wishes to you all out there  Jim. :police:

Hi Jim, and welcome to Mayhem. There are a couple of model boat clubs near to you, depending on which part of the coast you live. Logan City Marine Modellers sail at Tygum Lagoon, and their web site is http://lcmarinemodellers.com/ (http://lcmarinemodellers.com/)

Further afield there is Springfield Lakes Model Boat Club, who predictably enough sail at Springfield Lakes, Triple S who sail at Boondall near the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, and my club, the Ballina RSL Club Marine Modellers, who sail at Kingsford Smith Lake, Ballina. If you are ever down our way you would be more than welcome. We sail on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 9am.

Model shops are few and far between, and many modellers rely on the internet. Hobbyrama in Brisbane is an excellent shop and well worth a visit at 455 Stafford Road, Stafford, but Float a Boat in Melbourne is a popular shop for mail orders web site http://www.floataboat.com.au/history.htm (http://www.floataboat.com.au/history.htm). There are numerous shops in England who do international mail order, and most are very obliging. There are other model shops around, but many of them don't stock much that is boat related.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask - there is sure to be someone on the forum who can help. Also don't forget to post pictures of your models, we love pictures O0

Peter.

Welcome to Mayhem from a displaced Irishman living in Canada. We have very little in the way of model shops that sell boat related stuff here too. I buy mostly from U/K where I get excellent service, the following among many that have stood out are as follows, Cornwall Model Boats, The Component Shop, note = they now also sell ACTion electronics since Dave sold the business to them & retired. I have had good service as well from The Prop Shop & Barry's Model lettering. For Quality Kits Model Slipway are hard to beat & service to dream about. With a few exceptions most U/K suppliers are always fast to ship & have reasonable prices as well. You can PM me if you require more information as like you I am a long way from everything so I had to do a lot of searching for good suppliers. The Forum is a great source of revellant information as well, there are many experienced builders on here that are always more than willing to help. Finally last but not least you always have Peter Fitness right there in OZ always ready to help too. Again welcome, Mick B.
