Title: New Tricks
Post by: Jonty on August 07, 2013, 02:03:54 pm
This series seems to be going rapidly downhill - convoluted plots, hammy acting, and poor continuity.

Did any other eagle-eyed members notice last night that the "Commander" had one of his epaulettes on upside-down?

Amanda and Alun are leaving and being replaced by Tamzin Outhwaite and Nicholas Lyndhurst.
Don't think it'll be as good.

We used to watch these actors in the 70's and not
think about the ages of them or us.
Forty years on we realise we are all wrinklies and
all the musicians we loved are checking the Zimmerman
frame prices.

It wasn't just the upside down rank slide (there's another name for this piece of kit!) that caught my eye, but the fact that he still had it on upside down on a different day (well a different day in the show). Presumably the muppets in wardrobe made him wear the same shirt for all the scenes! At least the continuity was correct, even if the rank slide wasn't.

And did anyone notice that though he was obviously a commander, he was referred to as captain at times?

I cant see that the programme will be as good if they change most of the original actors. Personally I'm getting hooked on NCIS  Gibbs is so cool. :-))

Each to his own....although sea, lots of boats etc can't understand the negative comments...no pleasing some people
Enjoyed the show, (Alun Armstrong is a fine actor), and the scenes of Gibraltar were great . I would love to visit one day.
Looking forward to Nicholas Lyndhust and Tasmin Outhwaite joining the cast, and will reserve judgement on their performances until after viewing the revised show. (As most people should).
So much better to see real entertainment rather than reality/lack of talent shows.

Yeah, caught both glitches.....but what did intrigue me was the floor in the Rock Hotel.....exactly the same as it was in the 1960s. BY.

I haven't seen the episodes in question, but I'm sure I wouldn't let a small error like that bother me. I have been a big fan of New Tricks since it began, and am currently watching a re-run of the series on UKTV. There are a number of shows in which the actors leave or are replaced, take The Bill, for example, but I still watched it until the end. I will do the same with New Tricks.

Peter.

In these days of PC there are two chances of that happening - Fat and No. Personally I thought Warren Mitchell's Alf Garnett was a creation of genius while Jack Smethurst's Eddie Booth was just a crude and foul-mouthed pantomime dame. The best and worst of British sitcom.
