Hi all,
Finally had a clear day down here in Canberra and I managed to get the Bristol bay out on the lake for it's first time. I think it needs some ballast up forward as it seemed to ride very high in the bow and any slight breeze would catch the sails and she would heel over quite alarmingly. Has anyone had one of these before and ballasted it?

Yesterday I witnessed the blow over of a similar model (Graupner Elke), the sails were tightened down midship and the boat didn't have a chance when a gust hit it.
After loosening the sails so they could swing out 45°, the problem was solved and the wind even helped pushing the boat forward.
Some extra ballast won't hurt in windy conditions though...

Got the Bristol Bay out on the water again today I think the heeling over problem was the battery pack sliding around i didn't have the velcro tight enough and it was moving around so i put some double sided tape and velcro on the bottom of the battery and on the model and it was a matter of moving it left or right to get the model sitting properly in the water. It still seems to ride high in the bow but it doesn't seem to affect the sailing got about 20mins of uneventful cruising around. Overall pretty happy with it out of the box. I've got a Aeronaut Springer tug kit coming from Cornwall model boats so this will keep me occupied until i get that finished. I'll post some pics up later on tonight.

Welcome Thug, you have to build (or find ) a trailer for the boat so you can haul it behind your truck O0 Regarding the heeling in wind with the Bristol Bay, it would help if the sails were furled on windy days, it would look scale too as that would be the procedure on the full-scale boats of that type. An add-on keel , yacht style, is another option.

:-)) That's what mine almost did although i think it was more the battery sliding around before i velcroed it in that was causing the roll. Is that the tamiya Hilux?

Right now my bristolbay is out of commission
I took out tbe electronics
ill chnaged the servo for the rudder
that darnthing quit on me
also I want to put a battery box on it
its hard to keep sliding that battery for balance the boat

You`ll need a bigger truck %) O0 {-) If your servo got wet get some CorrosionX and spray some on the new servo. If not in local auto shop try airport mechanics workshop.

I waterproofed all my electronics on my bristolbay
so its all good now :-))
